ok...this accessory has gotten a bad rap since the get go. Faulty wiring,bad speakers,and constant charging of the PSP causing an always dead battery. But n ow this case has been reborn! In a stunning decision Nyko, instead of just stoping production and saying "tough,you bought it...you deal with it" has entirely redesigned the internals and made themselves a viable product!
Durablity-98 This has always been a sturdy case. Brushed aluminum, with neoprene lining (a little thin but usable). A redesigned latch holds it closed better than the last version. The outer hinge is a little loose, if you hold the case while using it the lid will flop forward but its not too annoying. The interior cradle is thin plastic but not too bad or cheap feeling. The major gripe in this catagory is the grey rubber plug covers in the front..they dont seem to want to stay closed but a little double sided scotch tape on the inside of the piece and they hold just fine.
Sound-90 I used to use the Intec speaker dock but these speakers are much richer sounding. The highs and mids are good and the bass is nice but not quite up to that from the Logic 3 speakers...but theres no subwoofer so its understandable.Its more than loud enough for movies and games and very little if any distortion at high or full volume. And of course as I said above Nyko has addressed the "buzzing" or "hissing" of the former model...and included a switch to turn the amp off for headphone use...saving alot of battery life. Also included is a white audio cord for playing the PSP while out of the cradle...about 3 1/2 feet long more than enough to lean back and enjoy.
Battery-98 This thing will either extend the battery life of the PSP in the cradle for 7 hrs with its li-ion internal battery. Or if just left alone without using the power for speakers recharge your PSP from dead to 100% 3 1/2 times before the low battery indicator (a red flashing led on the front just below the charging indicator) tells you the case has to charge. The case takes 8 hrs first time charge but 5 1/2 hrs after that since the unit is shipped totally discharged. Included is a charge cable that can be used in conjunction with the audio cable for play or movies out of the cradle. For those that want to know, yes you can use this case with or without cords to power your PSP without the battery pack installed so you can use a separate charging device for it while you play. As stated before in this new version the flaws are fixed. In the last version if you chose to store your PSP in this case without pluging it in it would constantly charge the PSP until the cases battery was exhausted. The fix is a switch on the bottom of the unit that switches off the charging feature to the PSP as long as the case is not plugged in. When plugged in the case will always charge the PSP first if its in the case and then the cases internal battery.
Price-100 This was the real killer for most people when buying this unit. With a list price of 79.99 at launch it scared alot of people away. Well this too has been fixed. Most retailers offer this at 39.99 to 49.99 I believe at Nykos request. (EB Games=39.99) Now that Nyko fixed all the problems there were with this item...39.99 is more than reasonable.
Summary- This is a kickass case with well done features by a company that was willing to admit its mistakes....and fix them and not make the consumer pay extra for the fix. In fact I have heard of many making a request and being able to send their old version back to Nyko and having a new version sent to them at no cost...thats responsibility my friends. In a world where accessories almost never live up to their names ...or brands this was a plesant suprise!

While trying to watch movies or trying to play games, the PSP's built in speakers can be weak at times, thankfully the guys at Nyko have come out with the Nyko Theater Experience to add much needed power and bass to the bad PSP speakers.
First impressions
You will be shocked when you see the sticker price of this after market product, it is a whopping $79.99! I found this product brand new online at ebay and paid an incredible $10.75. The unit is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, it is a good couple of inches longer than the PSP on both sides. The reason for this is so that the speakers have plenty of room to fit in the case.
The case is made of tough plastic, and brushed aluminum which is great as it protects the somewhat fragile PSP very well. The case is a sleek black that matches the color of the PSP well. On the front of the case you will find the connectors hidden behind two greay tabs. Under the tab on the left hand side you will find two headphone jacks. Why would you need two I hear you ask. Well this is great as it means that you can plug in two sets of headphones, one for you and one for your friend! Great if you are both watching a movie and need to use headphones instead of the built in speakers. Under the other tab you will find the AC connector. The Theater has a built in ion-lithium battery that adds an incredible 7 hours of game play or movie watching to your PSP, which is awesome. The unit will also charge the battery of the PSP while it is connected to the wall outlet. Everything can run off of the same power pack that the PSP uses as well, which is great as this means you do not have to bring the AC adapter if you are traveling.
The interior of the case is very nice. Inside you will find the case covered in form fitting neoprene, this is a great feature. The neoprene is very soft to the touch and this makes the case very easy on the PSP’s easy to scratch screen. Inside the case you will see the mounting bracket that the PSP sits in. On the bracket you will see two connectors. A connector that will plug into the PSP’s headphone jack and one that will plug into the PSP’s AC connector. Simply slide the PSP into the cradle and you're done -- the PSP is connected! The cradle is angled just right so you get the best viewing experience possible. It also has two feet on the back that you need to flip out so the cradle stands up.
How does it sound?
Quite simply, the Theater Experience sounds quite stunning. The 2 stereo speakers are built into the roof of the case. They are about an inch in diameter, but do not let this fool you because the sound that they produce it stunning. Crisp, rich sound will put a big smile on your face, this is how the PSP speakers should have sounded in the first place. If you use your PSP to watch movies you will be stunned at how incredible the speakers handle the sound! There is enough bass and power from these speakers to make any game or movie sound awesome.
While playing games the sound you hear makes a big difference to the overall game play. You can finally hear how the games were meant to sound without having to use headphones. The great thing is that even with the PSP in the cradle, it is still very easy to hold the and play games. And it does not affect game play at all.
However there is one downside to all this greatness. If you are online (using PSP firmware 2.0), or if the you are playing on the local LAN, there is a little interference. Not so much that it will drive you crazy, but it is noticeable, but I personally don’t think this has a negative impact on the unit.
Final Thoughts
The Nyko Theater Experience is anything but a waste of money. Apart from the little bit of static that is experienced while playing online, this is still one of the best products I have ever used, I don’t agree with the $79.99 price tag but if you can find one for cheaper I would definitely say get it. Every PSP owner needs to have one of these. It will take your movie watching and game playing to a new level. Highly recommended!

This system is amazing, there's no static noise anymore, and there's a switch on the bottom of the case to turn off the PSP charge mode so you won't have to lose any battery, even when your PSP is fully charged. As for the speakers, they sound far better than my iSound's. Also, the 2 audio jacks are ideal for going on airplanes. Me and my sister could watch a movie at the same time with headphones on. Not to mention the fact that the case looks sleek and modern.

This thing sucks like vacum compared to the "sound system" or its real name the "Logic 3".
Cons
This is $80 and the L3 is $70.
This makes a staic nosie when your not using it.
This has 2 spk. And the L3 has the same 2 and 2 subs.
Pros
It acts as a case.
It has a 7hr. battery.
It sounds kinda nice.
Trust me I own both of 'em!!

This is a great add on to the PSP. It makes it 10 times easier to watch movies and the brighter screen also helps at the same time. The headphone splitter is great for when you are on a airplane and the people around you want to watch the movie with you. I also like the fact that I can charge my PSP in a safe envronment. I can leave it inside the Theater Experiance and not worry about something like a powerbrick falling out of the plug or overheating. The Nyco charges it safely.
The only disadvantages are that the small plastic supports on the back of the Experience break very easily but can be repaired with a toothpick. Another disadvantage is that the theater takes as long to charge as it gives you extra time, 7 hours...11 hours with the PSP charging at the same time.

I bought a Nyko Theater Experience and I had the same problems as everyone else in this post. I called Nyko and their customer service told me to hold onto it until they fix the wiring and include a button to turn on/off the speakers. After a few weeks, I get a contact from them to return the old case for their new improved one. I just got it and it's so much better. THERE IS NO BUZZING NOISE!! NO MORE DISTORTION AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO CRANK UP THE VOLUME TO DROWN OUT ALL BUZZING NOISE.
I think this has the total package all the accessories combined now and it's definitely worth it. The number is 1-888-444-6956 if you have the older version. So please re-review the NYKO Theater Experience because I think the score should be in the 90s if not 100.

I travel a lot and take my PSP with me on every trip. I play games on it and watch movies rented from Gamefly. So the idea of a rugged case that extends the PSP battery life and props it up and improves the sound sounds like just what I need.
The good: As a case it is great, albeit much bulkier than the PSP unsheathed. The PSP fits snugly and the case latches securely. The extended battery functions as advertised. You use the PSP charger cable to charge the case and PSP simultaneously, although it charges the PSP before charging the case. No complaints - all 50/50 points come from the case/battery function.
The bad: As for propping the PSP up, it works but the Nyko has only one angle. Not so great.
The ugly: Loud noise whenever the PSP is attached. Mediocre sound quality. It completely sucks for sound.
I returned the Nyko Theater Experience and replaced it with two toys. The Nyko Charger Case works just fine for a case and battery extender. The Logitech speakers, while a bit awkward in assembly, sound good and are infintely adjustable for angle.

The Nyko Theater Experience is really great except for its outrageous price. For the casual movie viewer it doesn't make much sense to get it, but if you're really serious about buying and watching lots of movies on your PSP this is definetly the accesory for you. Could have used some extra space for other stuff though.
50
Cool case, but it is very large and you cannot store your PSP in it because the charge dies out. Even when the PSP is not in the unit, the charge does not hold. Would be better if you could put batteries in it when travelling.

Technically, the first impression was what I've seen of it online. It seemed like the perfect accessory for my PSP. It has the travel functionality that I need and I could use it with my mp3 players, and the list goes on. But, itt flunked big time once I got it home. It never worked! I'm guessing I had a defective one, but it was too much of a hassle trying to get it to work that I don't care to give it another shot. It takes 8 long hours to charge and I figured it might be an indication of what I could expect in the future.

This is one accessory that I had heard about around the same time as I heard about Logitech's Playgear Amp, and I was looking forward to this one just as much. It boasted to have built in speakers in a case, so you could carry your PSP anywhere and have theater quality sound for it. It also has a built in battery that extends the PSP's battery by more than 5 hours.
First, I was happy when I hooked this thing up and let it charge. The internal battery, though that is all I hear about this product as far as good words go, is a very welcome feature. Having a backup battery in the form of a case means you never have to lug another external battery or have another internal battery in your pocket all the time. The PSP fits wonderfully in the case, with no movement when inside. Even as a test of my own PSP, I put it in the cradle, closed the case and shook it violently. Though I would not advise anyone to do this test, I did not hear or feel any sliding or shifting of the PSP inside, showing the custom fit of the case is really well done.
Now I will get to the sound of the Theater Experience, which is a totally different ball game entirely. The speakers, to put it bluntly, are very poor. For starters, a system should never cause buzzing, squealing, or noise of any kind when you have them on. This can damage speakers and should immediately be turned off when this is heard. Since the Theater Experience makes these types of sounds the instant you put your PSP in the cradle and turn it on, that leads me to believe that Nyko intended the PSP to never use the speakers while in the cradle, thus defeating the point of the feature entirely. The 2 headphone jacks on the front of the case are a good feature, but sadly they suffer the same fate as the speakers. Plug in headphones and turn on your PSP and you will hear the same loud squealing sound that was produced by the speakers, rendering the headphone jacks useless. The two flaps on the front of the case to protect the headphone jacks, AC in, DC out, and audio in are very cheap. They never stay closed when you try to push them shut, letting dust and hair and anything else get into the outlets and cause damage. They should have had some type of latching covers or a button like the one to open the case itself for these covers as well. Once again, cheap and shabby development and lackluster thought went into this idea.
To be honest, when a company comes out with an accessory, an "accessory" that we DON'T NEED TO BUY at all, they should put lots of things into consideration. Is it just gonna be another case for the product, or the "Case to rule them all" to the consumer's eyes? Will all the features of the case be usable, in tip-top shape, and worthy of a $80 price tag? How many people does the company feel will be disappointed with this product and return it for their money back? How many will claim to the company that the product is defective due to the problems? Well, Nyko obviously did not take any of these questions into consideration. My synopsis: If you plan to buy the case to have a good case with an internal battery that will charge your PSP, then this case is probably a pretty good investment. If you are buying it for the speakers, for traveling, or for watching movies in a car with a friend, do not buy this. It will empty your pockets of your earnings and replenish them with disappointment.
The speakers are poor, the headphone jack noise and speaker noise is unacceptable, and almost all the features this thing boasts are turned to toast by all the problems with those features. Nyko, I know many companies don't do this, but I beg of you, please do a recall of this product and fix all these problems, and redevelop it to be better next time. This case has the potential to be the best case for the PSP, maybe of all time. As of right now, it is a $80 protective case/battery charger. I'd be better off getting a charger from another company and using my regular PSP battery, which I have. I also advise anyone wanting speakers for their PSP to get Logitech's Playgear Amp, which does not have the same amount of volume as the Theater Experience, but causes no noise while connected. Nyko lost $80 here today, as well as created an unsatisfied customer.

After seeing reviews that ranged from great to so-so, I was hesitant to drop $80 on this case. My main reason for wanting the case was to have a stand with speakers so when my family travels, my daugther can watch movies on the road. Also the benefit of the charger was appealing, not to mention a hard carrying case. That said the promise from Nyko was very appealing.
So after purchase what do I think? Close but not quite. The biggest negative is the speakers. Unless you have the sound turned up, you get background noise filtering through the speakers. The same holds true for the dual headjacks! When watching a movie, if you have the voulme up it's not bad, but with headphones it's almost unbearable. I bought a $4 y-spliter that sounds 100X better.
The case as a base and charger are great and very solid. Sadly the promised "5 postions" for viewing was dropped to a single angle. Also it would have been nice to be able to store more than the PSP in the case, you don't even have room for a Memory card!
Case = A
Charger = A+
Speakers = C
Dual Head jacks = D
Convience = B
Overall = B-

The Nyko Theater Experience for the PSP is a product that I have had my eyes on for quite some time now. When I heard of its release, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it for a review! After an extensive search for online stores that weren't out of stock, I had to actually drive down to a local store to check its availability there. I was told that there was one left in a town that was about an hour away. Wow, this thing is already hot on the market! Needless to say, I took the drive, paid the steep $80 price tag, and here is my review.
The basic idea of the Nyko Theater Experience is to turn your PSP into a portable DVD player. I think this is a cool idea, considering all the DVDs that are available for the PSP. The Theater Experience has several features.
The first is feature is a study hard-shell case for your PSP. Although the case is about 12 inches long, and a bit heavy, it is quite protective if you decide to use it in place of a standard PSP case. Unfortunately, there is no space in it to hold any of your UMD movies, or anything else for that matter. That's kind of a downer, but I know this wasn't exactly designed with the idea of a portable DVD case in mind.
Secondly, the Theater Experience comes with a built in 7-hour PSP battery. If you ask me, this is the most appealing part of the Theater Experience. If you include about 4 hours of playtime from your original PSP's battery, that's a total of 11 hours of playtime with the Theater Experience! I am really looking forward to this, as I will be leaving for Europe in a couple days. The plane ride will be about 12 hours long, which fits perfectly with the PSP and the Theater's battery life. That is, of course, if I sit glued to my PSP the entire time!
When the battery on the Theater Experience is charged, and a PSP is connected, it automatically draws power from the Theater Experience battery first. That way you can watch a movie, then take your PSP out of the case and still have a full charge. The PSP will also automatically charge it's battery using the battery on the Theater Experience when it is connected and not in use. The Theater Experience comes with both DC in and DC out plugs. It does not come with an AC adapter, but instead works fine with the adapter that came with your PSP. Because there is both an in and an out, it allows you to charge both your Theater Experience battery and your PSP's battery at the same time. The kit comes with a cord that allows you to charge your PSP from the Theater Experience without having to dock it. This way, if your PSP's battery is dead, you can play games while using the battery in the Theater Experience as your power source.
The third, and main feature of the Theater Experience, is it's audio amplifier and speakers. Unfortunetly, I am afraid this is where the Theater Experience falls short. To put it bluntly, the 2 speakers on the Theater Experience sound basically like louder versions of the PSP's built in speakers. In other words, the sound is louder, but there are plenty of issues with the crappy low-end output. If you are listening to music that has a strong bass line or beat, don't plan on turning up the volume to more than about 75% without getting distortion. This was a dissappointment. However, when watching movies with a more blended orchestral score, you can turn up the Theater Experience quite loud without much distortion. It's mainly the hard bass lines and beats that come through weak.
Despite that, the Theater Experience does an awesome job at simulating surround sound from such small speakers! Seriously, when watching a movie, if you were to walk to another room, you would have no idea the kind of sound you heard was coming from a PSP! Once again, this effect is used best when watching movies with a strong classical score, since there is little or no distortion, and the sound comes out very clear. I should also mention that while in the PSPs menus, there is quite a bit of electronic distortion that comes out of the speakers. When you listen to music or watch a movie, it isn't noticeable though, so I can't really mark it off for that.
Finally, the Theater Experience offers 2 headphone outputs, as well as an eigth inch audio output. The kit even includes an eigth inch stereo cord with 2 male ends. This allows you to use the speakers in the Theater Experience without having to actually dock your PSP in it. This works great for playing games, the sounds from the speakers on the Theater Experience, and the surround sound simulator really add to the gaming experience. But be careful, the speakers can be pretty loud, so make sure no one is sleeping when you do this!
So here are my final thoughts on Nyko's highly anticipated Theater Experience. It's good, but not good enough for an $80 price tag. Had this been closer to $60 or $50, it would probably be more reasonable to buy. I will probably get quite some use out of this, but mainly for its battery, and dual headphone outputs for long trips. Because the quality of the sounds is not the greatest, it will most likely not be the choice for playing music at a party or other social event. I was really hoping that Nyko's Theater Experience would make my PSP more versatile as far as the sound goes. Unfortunately, it will probably only be used on long trips, which I don't take very often. Because the case leaves no room for any other accessories or UMDs, I am gonna stick with the original case I bought for my PSP. All in all, I give this product a B-. It has a lot of little perks that are cool, and the extended battery is great, but fails to deliver in the main category that it boasts, and that is good PSP audio amplification.

After a full day of testing the battery all I can say is, "Wow!" I was able to run Spiderman 2 non stop and the batteries in the Theater Experience ran for eight hours and twenty minutes. Such a long run, well above what was promised, is very impressive. But, when the battery dies you know it immediately. The speakers die with little warning. I never saw the red flashing light that was supposed to let me know what was coming. I did notice an even further loss in sound quality as the batteries weakened. With the already bad sound it wasn't too noticeable. But it was still another blemish at a time when I was starting to be impressed.
It doesn't feel as tough as you would think an $80 device would. I also noticed that Nyko's original statements that the stand would have 5 settings didn't make it to final production. The stand has one position. It's not bad, but I was a bit put off. What else did they decide not to give us? The "tough" aluminum case is so-so. The Playgear Pocket feels far stronger. I think it could be worse though. Making it stronger with thicker aluminum would make it heavier and it weighs quite enough already.
This was important to me as I'm sure it is for many others. I was really afraid it would sound terrible. Let me say this; it does NOT sound as good as the Logitech Playgear Amp. But it does sound decent. It gets loud enough before it starts clipping. Playing my MP3 player through it I could hear it clearly in another room with lots of usual office noise in the background. The bass is weak. It's there, but it could be better. Livable. There is no volume control on the thing! Volume is controlled entirely through the PSP. Actually, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It saves on things to fiddle with all the time.
My only major complaint about it is the system noise. With the PSP in place and the UMD spinning happily there is an audible background noise coming from the speakers. Turning the volume up helps considerably. I'm guessing that the amp is right by the battery and the whole system must be more than a little "microphonic." It actually comes with a piece of paper saying not to use the audio cable and the power cable when using a PSP outside the case at the same time, "for optimum sound." I can believe it. But like I said, with the volume on a decent level, you won't hear it unless you are listening critically. Even with headphones you can hear the noise. The sound via headphones is actually much better connected directly to the PSP.
Hands down, between the Nyko and the Logitech, the Nyko is king here. You only ever need to plug it in when you want to charge the battery. You don't need to fumble with extra cables unless you want to use it with the PSP outside of the case. If your pants' pocket is large enough you can actually carry it there so the lack of any carry strap isn't horrible. You can be up and running watching a movie in a matter of seconds. Timing myself with the Logitech it can take minutes, especially if you don't have the 4 AAA batteries and you need to find a power outlet. Carrying the Logitech involves carrying its case and the PSP separately, probably in a big bag.
But, if you want to use the PSP outside of the Nyko's case, you'll need at least the audio cable and they didn't furnish a spot in the case for that cable (or the external power line) so you'll need something (a pocket would be fine) to carry them.
Honestly, I'm not sure about this thing. Playing with it, I just love how convenient it is to carry and use. That whole "fitting in my pocket" thing is a HUGE plus. The battery can really keep me going for well more than ten hours total and that's just awesome. Especially if it won't explode like the stories we've heard about that Pelican Power Brick. :-) It doesn't feel like the finest of quality, but it should hold up to everyday use.
But it has a massive downside. It should sound better. It should really sound at least a little better. I would prefer if it sounded a LOT better. The fact that it makes my headphones sound bad when they're plugged into it is just ridiculous. Bad design. I know I can be picky, but that is just too much. I'm sitting here now listening to the noise it makes and I just feel disappointed. If the sound was just a little cleaner and all other aspects of the device were all above board I would be happy to keep it. But with the bad audio, the so-so physical quality, and the simple fact that there are better options out there, it just doesn't seem to be worth buying.
I don't think I'll have to worry about paying my girlfriend back. The store will credit her account when I return this thing.

Hope that you fully charged it before you started playing, because this thing packs a punch! I haven't finished charging it yet but of course I am impatient too and just had to hear what this thing sounds like the sound was awesome! It is truly a theater experience in suround sound. Of course it's not going make you deaf if you listen to it too high, but in a busy mall I was forced to turn it down because it was far too loud. The main thing is the fidelity, ie "the faithfull reproduction of sound."
As an Interior Communications Electrician in the U.S. Navy I can apreciate the nuances of impedance matching and a good feedback circuit. What I am saying is that they did their homework and got an A+! It is far more useful, compact, versitile, and pleasing to the ear than the Logitech Amp which I left at the store after a short listen.
But I feel it was definitely worth the wait. Of course I haven't finished kicking the tires yet. But I do know that the seven extra hours of play that you get with the device is worth it in itself. Not to mention that one of the headphone jacks cuts out the speaker but the other one doesn't. This means that you can connect yet another set of speakers for an even better theater experience. It also has a jack for inputs. i.e. Ipod, or other media devices including a microphone. This thing is sick. Very, very sturdy piece of equipment. It also has extension cables that alow you to power both your PSP and play it while out of the cradle. It was only $79. Unfortunately there is no extra room in it for other things but it fits the PSP nice and snug and is the safest thing to date to put your PSP in.
27
Not the worst device ever but very close to it. The structural integrity of the unit is quite exceptional. Made of alluminum, and clasps that keep the PSP enclosed, one has no need to worry about damage to the PSP.
There are two rubber coverings that block the audio and power ports, these are sub-par but tolerable.
My complaint is the sound. As soon as the PSP is in the unit, a high pitched hissing sound comes from the speakers! What is this, NYKO? Did your engineering department not take Electrical Circuits 101? There is obviously something wrong with the wiring of the unit. I will not void my warrenty and tell you what needs grounded better, but there is/are some wire(s) that need it.
Due to the simple fact of the sound quality, I advise no one to buy this unit. It is defective. This could account for the shortage of units at all Gamestops (only 500 shipped with 2,000+ on pre-order).
NYKO has delayed this unit since April. Surely they could have fixed a simple ground problem in this amount of time. Unacceptable product, NYKO.
80
Was kinda supprise how big the unit was. After a complete charge I tested a movie with it and heard a loud hissing noise. The noise came from the spinning of the UMD disk and I found it unpleasent. That is the 1st issue, the second issue is the lack of storage of UMD disk. For an $80 device, they sould have included the ability to store 2,3,4,5,6 UMD disks. The speakers could use some improvement.
75
I rushed out and bought one too, and I think I'm pretty happy with it, but there are a few things I'd like to complain about. First of all, I read on this board and other places that the viewing angle was "adjustable". One site even said specifically that it had "five adjustable viewing angles". This is totally false. There is only one position. So this was a disappointment. In the manual it even says (as if we're all idiots) "if you want to adjust the viewing angle, move the entire unit closer to you or further away from you"!! Can you believe that?!?!
The second thing is, on the outside front of the case there are two places for the cords to attach, on the left for headphones, and on the right for the power cords. These have junky plastic covers over them that are attached by a short tether so that you cannot remove them fully (similar, but worse than the cover on the PSP that shields the memory stick). These are terrible because they don't snap into place at all, so they are always sort of hanging there, looking ugly. Very poor design in that regard. Those are my two basic complaints. I also didn't really care for the sound quality you get through the speakers. It seems too sound great for games, but I'm not going to be playing games while the PSP is in the case, as it's not comfortable to do so. I would just use the speakers for watching movies, and when I did so, even though it was loud enough, the levels seemed imperfect. The voices of the actors seemed much lower than the rest of the audio, so that it was hard to understand what people were saying. For this reason, I might never end up using the speakers, and so that part of it was a waste of money for me.
I do like the case overall though. Perhaps I'm just telling myself that so that I'll feel better about paying $80.00 for a case, but it is a sturdy thing that should protect the PSP. And even though the viewing angle is not adjustable, it is good to have something that props up the PSP so I can watch movies, without having to carry around a separate PSP stand, which definitely would take up more space. And the battery life extension aspect of it is definitely worth some bucks, since it really gives it a lot more hours. If I could have made the case myself, I would have made room for a couple of games and a few memory sticks. That would have been great.
30
I had really high hopes for this product, because the concept covered all the bases. A case, internal re-chargable battery, stand & powered speakers. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I wish I never bought this thing.
The case itself looks very, very cool & well made. Except for the little plastic covers for the power & audio inputs. The covers are crap and it's a struggle to keep them on in the proper place.
But my biggest gripe is the sound quality, the biggest selling point for this item in this high price range. There is something terribly wrong with the audio circuit in this device. There is a constant low pitch hum AND a very distinct high pitch whine sound that comes from the speakers. The static white-noise is present at all volume levels as well. But it's un-deniably easier to hear with the volume turned all the way down. You can hear it clear as day. Pretty loud and noticable too.
I thought I had just gotten stuck with a bad unit, so I went to a DIFFERENT store to do the exchange. The same problem occured with the second unit. But I discovered something in the process. If you press the button to disable the PSP Screen, like you would do to only listen to audio MP3, the High pitch whine is gone. I turned the screen back on again, and the high pitch whine came blaring back through the speakers. It sounds like something isn't grounded properly.
Please also note that the LOW PITCH hum was always present, and never went away. With the screen on OR off the buzz was there.
This was the case with both the units that I got. Just as a note, I also own the Hip Gear Sound Stage and the Logitech PlayGear Amp. I never had a problem like this with the other two units.
If anyone out there has purchased the Nyko Theater Experience, please check your units at LOW volume for this distortion sound. If anyone is having better luck and found an undamaged unit without the audio problems, please post your results.
As for this second unit, it's going back to the store for a refund. The Logitech sound quality is WAY better anyway. Buyer Beware. Good luck to all.
