I have to agree with Jandro101 that this is the best RPG for the PSP. The sound is great and it helps immerse you in the game with the little details like birds chirping, waterfalls and so on. The Graphics are not the greatest but are close to it especially when you are performing Chi Arts which are a special kind of attack fueled by your chi. And I think that the developers were very creative with the combat system, to make combos you have to get special scrolls and add things to them to make combos. If you get tired of doing the things that advance the story, you can battle enemies from other clans for experience. Great game, yoo should probably get this because there arent many great rpgs for the PSP right now.

Gameplay - 95
Basically the gameplay to this game is outstanding, you can fight up to a lot of enemies by using your 4-9 hit combo sword skills, or blown them away with your Chi power. The controls are quite easy and I have not had a problem with them yet.
The graphics in KoP really stand out, especially the designing of the world Ouka, you can really tell that the designers have put some effort into this game. The waterfalls, sky changing, birds flying, etc.. Especially when you are in combat mode, the graphics for the swordlplay/Chi techniques are awesome. Once you hit that 9 combo swordskill, it never gets boring after doing it over and over again. The dialologue in the game is really impressive, when the characters begin to speak to each other, it zooms up to their upper body and you can get a view of how detailed the characters are.
The sound isn't the BEST feature in the game but its satisfying. The only con about the game is when the characters are talking to each in the zoomed up mode, it takes them a while to switch cause they read every line. Other than that the sounds for the sword fighting are nice, background sound, such as footsteps, water flowing, and even birds chirpping are all there.
In conclusion, this game is a must buy for all you PSP owners. It never gets boring and you always want to know what is going to happen next or either train Shinbu to become a stronger warrior and master a secret technique ;-). Story is well played and the graphics are breathtaking, especially knowing the fact that its all on this small handheld.

When I first got my PSP I was one on the people whining for an RPG. I got so deperate that I even bought Untold Legends. UL was defeintely NOT my kind of RPG. I love Asian RPG's like the Final Fantasy (FF) series from Square Enix. FF 7 and FF X are two of my favorite games. Kingdom of Paradise is an Asian style RPG set in a mythical Orient. It is the job of your character to stop the takeover of all clans by a rival clan called the Kirin. Of course that is just the tip of the iceberg. You have the power of Sword Arts and Chi (Elemental Energy) Arts at your diposal.
KoP's controls are very simple and easy to master. I normally hate action RPG's beacause I'm very picky about how I equip and set up my characters for battle. I really got into the real time battle system that KoP sports. Also, you can pause during battle and change configuration at anytime, so that helps. The combination of martial (sword) arts and chi (magic energy) arts makes fights fun. Nothing is more important to me than an RPG story and KoP has a very compelling story with characters that you care about. The game has very fluid animation with vibrant scenary, have not yet seen a slowdown and the cutscenes are very nice as well. The game has never frozen on me (crosses fingers) and it comes back perfectly when you turn the system off and on again later. I never tested this with a dead battery though.
The world map they give you is not the best. You can get a general idea of where you headed but since you have no compass, it can be hard knowing with direction you are going in. The mini map however is lot more useful in getting you where you need to go. KoP is a short RPG. not sure how long since I'm only 10 hours in. But I've read 15-20 hours. For people that have other games they'd like to play, this may be a plus. It would be nice if some of the NPC's could give a few more hints then you get stuck.
For $39 US, you can't go wrong with this one. If the budget is tight, try renting it. Highly recommended.

Well, I finally put down Infected long enough to play Kingdom of Paradise for an hour or so and will say the game is pretty cool. By far one of the best looking games on the system I might add.
It is a pretty serious action RPG with very heavy Asian influence. You can tell from the wonky translated dialog, which is about 90% spoken, and from the heavy historical stoyline.
This is one of the first game I had to read the manual in order to play. There are different schools of martial arts that you can learn as well as a heavy empahasis on magic. It is kinda cool because you gain skills by finding scrolls all over the map that you assemble into combos. The combat itself is very simplistic and repetitive, although challenging at times.
After building a combo you simply press the circle button the amount of times you have moves programmed into the combo. The magic works by holding down the square button to fill your magic meter than tapping square again to fire it. All the while you are trying to avoid getting hit and having your charge interrupted. whhhhhhew! Sound confusing? Well, it can be! But after you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature and you start feavorishly scouring the map looking for more combo scrolls.
You are confined to a somewhat linear path, although the areas are fairly large to explore. The maps take a little getting used to as well.
After all of this you may be wondering if the learning curve is worth it? Well, I believe it is if you are a fan of action RPG's because this is a really good and deep game. This is a thinking game so it won't replace games like X-Men Legends 2 or Untold Legends. I have only put in a little over an hour so I am only scratching the surface here.
All in all a good RPG for the PSP!
Gameplay: 85 - Deep, pretty decent learning curve that pays off in the end.
Graphics: 92 - Very nice eye candy! Animations are well done and the environments look good.
Sound: 75 - Wonky translated dialog, but the spoken parts add some value!
Replayability: 90 - From what I have read this game takes a minimum of 15 hours to complete and there is a multi-player aspect that allows you to take your guy into an arena to use the skills you have learned against others! NICE!
Total: 85 - Any RPG fan should take a look. All others rent first!
