Like a few other people on here, I have to travel alot for work so my PSP comes in handy when waiting for a delayed plane or when on a long flight. I soon realized like others that the original battery was going to be a problem. So, rather than go the extra Sony 1800mAh route, I figured a 4200mAh battery pack was worth a shot.

First charge from the Sony charger took about 8 hours for the flashing charge light to shut off. Zero signs of any extra heat like the Pelican horror stories. Things are looking good for my $17 buck investment! Now it's off to do a little informal testing. I fully charge up the PSP, the newly charged battery pack and load up a movie clip and Ridge Racer. Note that these tests were spread over a 2 day test period and movies were replayed from the memrory stick and not a UMD.

Fully charged PSP (no battery pack)
• Movie: 4 hours 15 minutes
• Game: 1/2 hour
• Battery goes dead

Fully charged PSP (with battery pack)
• Movie: 6 hours 20 minutes - movie
• External battery goes dead and internal kicks in

So did I get 3 full recharges? Not really, but that was not the way I tested it. Did I triple my battery life? Nope. I'm not sure whether testing the battery pack by letting it recharge the internal battery when not playing would have given different results, but as I said, this was not the way I would be using the battery pack in the real world.

So in the end, is it worth $17 bucks? Absolutely! I now have at least 10 1/2 hours of movie play time when travelling and could extend that again for a measly $17 bucks. The only reason I didn't give this unit a "100" is because the plugs in the unit are a tiny bit loose and may get looser with time but that remains to be seen. Overall, a big thumbs up !!!
