No stranger to the accessories market, Mad Catz enters again with an interesting hybrid called the Stealth Case. It's one part PSP case, one part screen protector, holds two Memory Sticks and is also capable of being used as a stand.

had this case for about 3 mths now...
yes the screen thingy does scratch up but you dont notice when the PSP is on!
i use a sceen protector so no worries on the screen thingy scratching my screen...
it feels and looks solid...ive put some velcro on the movie stand thingy so no worries about scratching the back!
the memory card holder part is brilliant,my only gripe is that the lid seems too be getting looser and looser over time..
ive used it travelling and it worked well...put it in your bum bag and forget about it!
it looks sleek and fits in ur pocket much better than a pgp.......

Trust me, this case is one of the best out there. It'll protect your PSP for as long as you keep it in it. I have had no problems what so ever with it and highly recomend it to everyone. My back of the PSP only scratched because I was dragging the stand over it while I was opening it, which I learned that when you open the stand, pick the PSP up before opening it, trust me.

But overall the scratches aren't a problem because the case COVERS THE BACK!!! so no one will ever know, OK?

Looking at the box this looks like a decent case. Movie stand, memory stick storage... But the padding is so little it might as well not even be on if it were to drop. The movie stand creates very very deep scratches to the back of your PSP. Although the screen protector is nice, and it is a fully accessible case (charge, umb, usb, headphones...) All in all this case will likely harm your PSP more than it protects it. Stay away from the Stealth unless you like the artsy look of random scratches on your PSP.

I got talked into buying this case the day that I bought my PSP. I really liked it when I first got it, but as I used it, the back of my PSP became scratched and the front screen also was scratched some. Dust stayed inbetween the screen and the plastic screen cover. The plastic coverpiece became scratched from the memory-stick-holder piece on the top flap. The L1 and R1 buttons are hard to access when in real gameplay with the stealth case on the PSP. The top flap makes it look like a DS, and I cannot stand it. I did drop the PSP a few times when it was in the case. The case stood up very well, and it probably saved my PSP. Overall, I only use this case when I'm going to fly or something. If I know that my PSP may need extra protection, but I do not like the case at all anymore.

I got this a month ago, looked good in the box, but I was disapointed with it out of the box.

Just does not feel right, plus the padding inside is a bit too thin for my liking (looks cheap as well considering the price in the uk).I think the general build feel was a bit poor. I have taken it back for a refund and bought the logitech street instead for carrying my PSP and 4 games (1 game in the PSP). Its already saved all my stuff from a major wipe out on my mountain bike.(thats £380 worth of stuff saved ).I am also buying the logitech play gear this week for the gaming opintion while in the case or the amourlite. I travel alot (work related) and the street gear goes beyond the call of duty. But the playgear would be a nice addition.

Cases are supposed to prevent your beautiful PSP from getting scratches, but this case actually GIVES your PSP lots of scratches. DO NOT buy this case. You will get ugly scratches on the silver circle part on back of your PSP. You will also get scratch on your PSP screen because dust can go under the screen protector very easily. I was very happy with this case for first 2 weeks and I thought it was the best PSP ever, but when I found out the scratches on my PSP screen I stopped using it. The screen protector also gets scratches very easily and it's very annoying. Trust me. Don't buy this case. Do not trust other reviews that says this case is great. They probably faced the same problems as I did and stopped using it.

With a variety of case choices out there for the PSP, choosing a case can be a time consuming chore in itself. A buyer has to weigh options with protection, functionality, size, style and price. If a complete balance were to be reached between all four of these fields with some sacrifices, it's going to be found in the MadCatz Stealth Case. This is my attempt to make the most comprehensive review for this case.

[header[/header]Protection[/header]
The first thing you'll notice about the case when you take it out of the box is its sturdiness. A lot of people think aluminum is as thick or should feel as thick as a metal tin box, but that's far from the case. A better example would be to compare this form of aluminum (Anodized) to a cooking pan.

It is a understatement to say that the case can withstand a lot of punishment thrown at it, but it is a error to say that the PSP is completely safe inside the case as well. You see, the cushioning inside the MadCatz stealth case is rather thin. While this protects the case from "Pressing" pressure, it doesn't necessarily protect the PSP from "Shock" damage. Cases with large soft interiors, more notably soft cases for example, have a "Bouncy" feel to them, and can protect the PSP better in an event of a hard strait drop to the floor.

The trade-off here is that the size of the case fits the PSP almost skin tight, so it's really almost an extremely hard "Layer of Skin" than an actual case that totally envelopes the PSP. If I were to rate overall the protection level given the PSP in four stages (Light-Medium-Heavy-Extreme), I would place the Madcatz Stealth Case in the Medium-Heavy range. For a comparative view, the popular Playgear Pocket Case from Logitech falls in the Heavy category, while the 3500 Series Case from S3.Inc falls in the extreme category.

[header[/header]Functionality[/header]
The Stealth Case provides the user the ability to access all the buttons, ports, and UMD slot of the PSP while it's housed in the case. This means if the user wishes to, they can keep the case inside all the time, without the need to ever take out the PSP and interact with it, and then put it back in.

The Stealth Case also has two memory stick slot holders in the inside cover, for your additional on the go memory switching needs. It should be noted that the memory stick slots are rather too good at what they do, so inserting and removing the memory sticks from the very tight slot means the user has to use their entire thumb and slide in the stick, and slide out the stick. I'm not sure if their was a rumor about the memory stick slots being loose or not, but that's far from the truth. The memory slots can be a pain for people who use their index fingers, since it's so stuck inside the slot when placed, it's near impossible to take it out without using your thumb slide method.

Along with this the back of the case that allows UMD access is a hatch door that falls out and provides support to the PSP propping it up. This works out pretty well for the PSP as a stand, and gives it a lot more rigidity than say, the Playgear Pocket's technique which relies on the weight of the PSP by itself to keep it in place using only the hinge. This only provides solid support while the PSP is sitting up straight, or falling back. Like all major cases out there, a jolt forward toward the screen side of the PSP can collapse the case. No case to this day has really addresses this particular problem much except the Core Case, which uses magnets to keep itself in proper position at all times. So it's a good effort from MadCatz to give a lot more sturdiness to the case while viewing movies or keeping it stationary to use this hatch door method.

Finally, the Stealth Case comes with a hard clear plastic screen guard that is removable. The screen guard "Clips" into place while it's being used in the Stealth Case, and provides a solid glare / screen protection barrier for your PSP. It should be noted however that like many other hard plastic/carbonate screens, it's prone to dust, fingerprints, and scratches. So from the get go, the moment you get the Stealth Case, it's in your best interest not to muck up and damage the clear faceplate. Although this accessory is "Optional" for the case to function, it is rather nice looking while it's on. It provides a minor (Like 2%) magnification of the screen when it's on, and gives the PSP some depth of field while viewing. I'll be honest, if you ever drop the PSP on it's face while the hard clear screen protector is on, it's probably going to be the last time you use it if it gets scratched up a bit. Think of it as a hard version of the popular Hori Screen Protector, where although it's good for protecting against every day wear and tear, the moment the protector gets mucked up or scratched where it's noticeable, you're going to toss it away and get a new one. I feel MadCatz added this screen guard at the last stages of its production since you can tell it's not entirely "Fleshed out" looking. But it's a welcome addition none the less.

[header[/header]Size[/header]
This case is slim. Really slim enough to say it feels like a hard layer of skin on the PSP. It just feels so natural while it’s on that you'll probably never want to take it out and leave the PSP naked ever again. With the case on, the PSP's thickness is exactly 3cm. Without the case on, the PSP's thickness is 2.5cm. So the top and bottom of the case provide 0.25cm of solid anodized aluminum, and the left and right side covers are so thin it's not even worth measuring. Big points for the size of this case, with no real glaring negatives.

[header[/header]Style[/header]
One of the glaring problems with the style of the Madcatz Stealth Case is the glaring logo in front and center of the case lid. This feels rather abrasive and gives that "Corporate Structure" feel that many people do not generally adhere well to. Like the most popular case, the Playgear Pocket from Logitech, offers a clear case that allows personal custom touches in the form of inlays that help differentiate it from another person who owns the same exact case. Logitech's logo is also faintly printed on, and can be easily removed. In the end, Madcatz glaring emblem in front and center of the case make it look rather tacky.

It's a shame to, since the rest of the case while shut or open really looks nice. The holes that are cut out for the case that allow access to the buttons of the PSP are really professionally done and look clean and smooth. While the case is open, the screen guard adds a little "nice" factor to it due to the small magnification it bonus I talked about earlier, and all around the black finish with black interior lining makes it professional. If it weren't for the glaring logo in the front of the case, Macatz would have had a real sexy no-nonsense feel in the Stealth.

[header[/header]Price[/header]
As of currently the Stealth Case is priced on the average at $19.99 US dollars. I would of liked it if Madcatz lowered their price a bit to be more competitive with the slew of cases on the market at this pricing point, especially the very popular Playgear Pocket & Core Case. Still for what you get, $19.99 is a solid price for an all around balanced and good case. You're getting a deal if you can find it lower, but I wouldn't pay more than suggested price. That opens up a can of worms with other higher priced superior choices like the Capdase Luxury and Vaja I-volution leather cases which pretty much blow anything out of the water.

[header[/header]Conclusion[/header]
Madcatz has a really product here. All around, it's a very good case with only one major glaring fallback, the logo. If style isn't your primary concern with a case, the Stealth Case is an excellent choice for its pricing point amongst others. While I feel the Core Case is probably a bit better than the Stealth Case for movie viewing purposes, the Stealth's added screen guard and ease of availability make it more desirable. You can find the Stealth Case most of the time right next to the Playgear Pocket from Logtiech in your local popular retail chain store. Throw in a 2 year warranty, and all in all, a good choice for a case.

Useful Tip
Unlike other cases which are built of materials that are inflexible/changeable whatsoever (Polycarbonate, leather), aluminum cases of any kind can be bent a bit. This isn't a bad thing, because what this means is that the "Hooks" or hinges of the case can be re-shaped back into place. For example, if the lid becomes loose over time due to excessive wear and tear of usage, you can simply take a small wrench or pliers and bend the hooks back into place, making them absolutely brand new. It just takes the right tool a bit of strength. (Anodized aluminum is quite tough) This is also the same for the hinges.

I am the owner of a Playgear Pocket and a Stealth, and, I have to say, I don't even use my Playgear Pocket anymore. First, I noticed, it's much slimmer and more skin-tight than the Playgear Pocket. It's made of really tough aluminum, which has withstood 3 large drops with flying colors. But the most amazing thing about this case is that it combines function with protection.

The case never actually needs to be removed, you can access every switch, button, and port, without even taking it out of the case. The screen protector is also a plus, except, after a few weeks, you will notice 4 tiny dents in the screen protector. Those are the edges of the memory stick holder, but, I studied it, and in no way does it affect the PSP. So, in conclusion, I will say...BUY IT! Its better than the PGP.

I got this for Christmas. I enjoyed it. I brought it everywhere. I dropped it. Twice. Still used it. On February 2nd, I noticed the UMD latch was loose, so extremely loose that it would not stay shut. The top of the case, DS wannabe, can really get annoying, especially when playing a game, I usually don't take it out of the case as I'm lazy, and it takes quite some strength to do so. Most if not all the reviewers on here have based their reviews on less than a week of purchase and use. Trust me, these reviews are very unreliable and decieving. I am very dissappointed in this product, as I had high hopes for it. I guess you could blame it on Madcatz poor design and structure quality.

Pros
• Tough, heavy design (ironically falls apart in frequent use)
• Easy access to all portions of the PSP while in the case
• I guess that's it, the first one really being a con

Cons
• Easily falls apart
• DS wannabe screen cover gets annoying
• Quite expensive for painted black aluminum which over time turns to scraps.
• No place for earphones
• No place for cleaning cloth
• Memory stick compartment design makes it hard for user to get the memory sticks out

Seriously, this case is terrible.

I haven't used any other cases, but this case is bad to the bone. VERY sturdy, and others say it's heavy, but that makes me feel alot more comfortable when using it. I would highly recomend this case to anyone, and at $20 bucks its a steal. A MUST HAVE!

OK just to let you all know this is made of strong black aluminum and ALL ports are available. It also holds 2 Memory Sticks in a cool locking fasion and protects your PSP. It's great for putting in your pocket and using on the go, but not the best protection. Still, I recomend it.

This is 1000000000x better than the Playgear Pocket.

Pros
• It has a window for UMD Games/ Movies
• Built-in stand
• Screen protector
• All buttons accessible
• Provides excellent damage protection to the PSP
• Holds my memory stick duos

Cons
• Could be made a little Slimmer
• Heavy
• Little protection from water.
• The stand part scratches the back of the PSP

Pros
This offers the best protection. It will never fall out with the screen protector. Easy to go case small enough to fit in your pocket. You can reatch the UMD door to change UMDs while the case is on. The stand is very usefull.

Cons
This case is very hard to get your PSP out of and the aluminum is cold.

All in all, this is the best case out there for only $20.

I tried it after I took back the PGP and I loved it. It's lighter and holds 2 memory sticks, not to mention the built in screen protector!! There are no downsides except that if you drop it the case dents a tiny bit because it's aluminum, but you never drop it more than 4 feet so no worry.

I think this is a pretty well layed out case. It can store 2 memory cards and has a scratch proof screen protecter. It looks and feels like it's bullet proof with its metal desing. It can be ajusted to any angle to watch movies.

The only problem I had with this was that it easily snapped back and now will not hold it corectly, so it is pointing upwards at an angle. Other than that, the case is pretty durable and has a nice desing.

I was at an airport and it set off the detectors, we have pretty sensitive detectors. It cost $20 and was a good price as I am not all that reliable with not scratching things. Its got the cold steel look, I only wish that it did not have that Mad Cats logo. I dropped it and it protects the PSP pretty well, and as far as holding 2 memory cards it took me awile to figure out that you had to slide them out.

It has easy acess to the UMDs so that's a plus, but like I said the thing that holds it up doesn't bend, so don't push it too far back or it will change the angle. Right now I think it works pretty good and I like the functionality of the screenguard.

If you want a cheap durable case I would have to say that this is the best choise for your money.

90
I bought this case the same day I got my system and it's great. I love the fact that you can store 2 memory sticks in it and the screen cover inside is great. The few problems I found is that you can't play with the PSP at an angle because the top will fall down and snap on your fingers, and being metal that realy hurts! The second is that it adds quite a bit of weight wich can make playing for long amounts of time sucky. Other then that I think this is a great buy!!!

99
I was so worried about dropping my new PSP, I sold some PS2 games to get £18 which I used to buy the stealth case. I am very pleased with it. It is EXTREMELY durable, I have dropped it and it stayed shut and the PSP took no damage at all. I love the fact that you can change UMDs while it is in the case. You can do pretty much everything with the case on.

However, the plastic screen protector is very tight fitting (easy to see why) and it is very difficult to fasten it or remove it. But you shouldn't need to do this often, only if you want to remove the battery for some reason (you can charge it when the case is on).

I reccomend making sure the PSP and the screen protector os well cleaned before fastening it, because of the tight fit I can see how it would be easy to scratch the screen if there are any particles trapped between.

90
Got it last night. Love it, fits perfect, just the right size. Looks great too.

97
My first impresions of this case were pretty good. It looks solid and slim. It allows you access to all ports, closes tightly, and can be used as a stand.

Features

This case practically has it all. Full access to all major ports (Including USB and UMD door), slots for storing up to two additional memory sticks, a built in screen protector (which can be taken out if wanted), and the UMD dorr that can be hinged out can also be used as a very sturdy stand I need be. It is very thin and durable.

In use

This case has been tested for one week. In that week I have dropped it several times (on purpose for the sake of this review). It has held up very well. There was one such instance were I was walking up a flight of stairs to catch a train and I had let it slip out of my pocket. It dropped about 5 or 6 concrete stairs and to my amaze it was still tightly closed and there was no damage to the PSP inside. The only damage that occurred was a slight chip in the paint where it had struck the stairs the first time.

]Overall

This case has seen a lot this past week and has hel up strong. I highly recommend this case to anyone. Slim, durable, and very well built, it is one of the best cases out yet. The screen protector is amazing. Finally I can switch out my UMD's without having to take out my PSP from the case.

99
This case is awesome. It's smalerl than my PGP, but a tad heavier. You can change games/movies without taking the unit out of the case. This case can also store 2 Memory Sticks and has a flipstand so you can watch some movies. All the ports are accessble. Another good thing is there is a removable screen protector and it easy to remove.

The only thing I do not like about this product is that it doesn't protects as much as the PGP. There are openings on the side, mem stick port, triggers, and charger side. They are protected but not as well as with the PGP. The funny thing is I had wanted to put the PGP in my pocket, but with the Stealth you can actually fit in you pocket. I wish you can customize this thing like the PGP, but all in all this is an excellent case.

8
This product is terrible. It is far too large and is very ugly compared to the Godly and Almighty PSP. The only good part about it is that it can hold 2 memory sticks. Do not get this, get the Logitech Playgear pocket now that is a fantastic case. I brought back the Stealth Case a few days after I got it.

Compared to the Logitech case it is much heavier. The case is far to thick to fit in a pocket and the plastic piece that is supposed to protect the screen actually made little scratches on my screen! I do not want scratches on my screen and I don't think any of you want scratches on your screen either! Do yourself a favor and get the Logitech Playgear pocket, that's the right way to go. Your PSP deserves better than the Stealth Case. Do not get it!
