well dispite the poor story the game play is great with an online feature makes it more worth your time and money and the graphics I think could be better but with what time this game came out it was a perfect game for all ages heck my grandma likes it and she is all most 60. so I give it a 4 out of 5.

I really enjoy this adaptation of the classic Twisted Metal. It is fast paced and fun. Graphics are bright and not different (maybe better) than the original.
For me, the controls are the best part, they are fun and easy and very responsive.
The only drawback I see for this game is that the speed of the game makes viewing on the relatively small PSP screen a bit nauseating at times. Quick turns can really flash.
Anyways if you're a fan of this tried and true franchise, you will not be disappointed. It's now a 'Greatest Hits' title and really cheap. There is no reason not to buy it!
97
This game is my personal favorite. It is full of action packed levels that all have a minigame. There is a wide selection of weapons and veichles. Any true teen gamer must own this.
98
Gameplay: Loads of action to keep you on it.
Life: This game can be played for a long time as it has many things to unlock.
Graphics: Good, but don't match with the bleakness of the Originals
Sound: Good, but not as bleak as the Originals
Loading Time : Not long
Twisted Metal is a compatition in which people fight eachother in veichle combat. The winner of this shall be rewarded anything their hearts Desier by Calipso.
The aim of this is to fight in arenas and destroy all your opponents.
It gives a wide range of levels and characters.
It has the opponent Fired Up, but althought Fired Up is fun it doesn't compare to Twisted Metal : Head On.
Buy it?: Yes

I first liked it -- amazing graphics etc. But half an hour later it got too boring. I would rent it but not actualy buy it.
95
This is a GREAT game I simply loved it.
Graphics
Graphics were great, no retarded cutscenes or cheap slackjobs. Everything looked great overall.
Sound
The sounds are nice. The closer a car comes, the louder the noise. Almost everything possible in this game had a sound.
GamePlay
Every car has a unique special, there are not many wepaons but that's all you need. There are MANY diffrent types of cars for people who want fast but weak or strong but slow or something in the middle .
Definitely get this game!
97
This is a really great game! I'm sure you have played TM before. Head-On is alot better. I highly recommend this game. It has a lot of characters and brand-new levels!
90
If you liked Burnout Legends, you'll get a kick out of Twisted Metal:Head On. It is a great car combat game, though fairly confusing your first time playing.
95
Great car combat game.
92
This is definItely one of the PSP's best games. The graphics are almost exactly like the PS2. The sound is good, but it would do better with more music. Infrastructure mode is great. There is no lag at all. Load times are ok, considering the size of the levels. It is a bit expensive for an older game, ($49.99 canadian). You could be playing this game for years because there are many cars you can play as, and there are many mini games as well.
75
A lot similar to Twisted Metal: 2 (ah, good times), I can say, the first time you play it through story mode, its fairly exciting, but to unlock the extra characters, you have to replay it over and over and over and over again, so in other words, the replayability sucks. The stories for the characters are kinda interesting, but if you could rent UMD's, this game would be a definite RENT. If you're wondering why I didn't mention the multiplayer, thats because it sucks. It takes too long to set up, then you can barely ever connect to a game, and once you get there, its just like story mode except everyone tries to hide, whichs makes it more boring actually.
90
Cool game. The music is not so good, but the gameplay is awesome and the graphics are astounding.

Twisted Metal was awsome when it first appeared on the original Playstation. When Twisted Metal 2 came out, it was literaly the one of the best games for the Playstation at the time. When TW 3 came out, the series lost it's touch, along with TW: Small Brawl, and TW 4. The series was then reborn in Twisted Metal Black for the Playstation 2, and was an awsome game, and had everything you wanted from Twisted Metal. The thing that made it the greatest, was that this game could be played online, and the same with the new and improved, portable version of Twisted MEtal:Head on, a great, fun, and one of the best titles for the PSP.
87
I purchased it awhile ago its fairly good. Pros are the good graphics, replayablitly, and infrastructure (drool). Ccons are not nearly enough infrastructure players. I mean come on people, at 12:00 today at lunch there were 2 games up.
81
TM:HO is absolutely perfect for new PSP users. It's not too short that you don't get that much out of it, and it's not too long that you get bored of it easily. With the wide car selection, its totally replayable. Looks great, sounds great, the works.
Any veteran of Twisted Metal with be satisfied. It also goes online and ad hoc but if your just picking it up, dont look forward to the multiplayer because the game has pretty much died online. There's plenty to look forward to in the single player though, so give it a rent unless its really cheap to buy.
91
Graphics - 90
Everything about the graphics look great. The rockets and missles look exactly how they should and the car have great detail. No complaints here.
Load Times - 90
Load time are usually about 5-10 seconds long. Very good.
Replay Value - 93
Almost limitless with the option to play multiplayer over the internet (infastrucutre).
Overall - 91
Eveyone should at least try this game out. Its great fun and multiplayer makes it even better.
95
I love this game! Twisted Metal has always been a great game (except black) so I was very excited to hear that this game was coming to the Godly and Almighty PSP. The Graphics are amazing, gameplay is the best, and load times aren't too long. It even has online multiplayer! The only problem I had was the online multiplayer. I couldn't connect ot any games! But I do realize that it works for most of you so hopefully you won't have the same problem. But even if this game didn't have multiplayer I would buyit. So if you don't already have it go do yourself a favor and buy it.
74
What can I say. I've been playing Twisted Metal since its first appearance. The PSP version is well worth your money if you are a Twisted Metal fan. It's sad to say but if you aren't a fan then once you play thorough the game once you wil unlikely want to play again and againg with all the different cars. The graphics and sound are top notch. The playability only increases with time. Once you figure out how to play throught the infrastructure mode it really opens a new world for you and your PSP. The load times are a bit slow but compared to most it's nothing you coudln't handle.
I think the Twisted Metal series is great for a game you don't really need to use much brain power for just bring your happy face. Although it is a good game, theres nothing really new about it from it first appearance on the PS1 and I don't really see how they can make it any better in the coming years.

The 2nd Twisted Metal game created a name for the series in the gaming community, so it's perfect that they went with its roots for inspiration with Twisted Metal: Head-On. For both better and worse, this handheld adaptation of the origin of vehicular combat.
The Twisted Metal formula is very much present here in Head-On, and it's hardly changed at all. So while some faults of the older games can still be pointed out, Head-On retains all of the addictive qualities that Twisted Metal 2 made famous.
The single player modes of Twisted Metal: Head-On are nearly identical to those of Twisted Metals past, centering on the straightforward story mode that drops players into a series of different arenas to battle it out in a free-for-all melee to win their "Ultimate Wish" from Calypso.
This level-to-level game progression works very well on the handheld format, making Head-On very pick-up-and-play friendly. But that's not to say the story mode is entirely shallow. New to Head-On is an upgrade system that rewards aggressive killing with collectible upgrades. The upgrades can increase the power of special attacks, boost of jumps, and even improve the vehicles armor, and their effect is there until the driver dies. So even though the game allows two deaths per level, there's enough reason to stay alive to keep your powers increased.
It doesn't take more than 30-45 minutes depending on your skill level to run through the brief story mode, but there's plenty of lasting appeal in the form of unlockables and secrets. Each of the more than thirteen twisted characters has an unlockable cinematic ending.
On top of that, there are multiple secret characters to unlock, both by completing the story mode normally and by finding secrets buried within the levels. In the midst of vehicular combat, there are secret teleports that initiate mini-game challenges. Completing these challenges will unlock added extras for single and multiplayer games.
As with previous games in the series, Twisted Metal: Head-On features twisted humor that will find you thinking to be careful of what what you desire and wish for. Head-On borrows its visual styling from Twisted Metal 2, using lightly animated, colorful comic book style drawings to deliver the series' now legendary character endings.
The endings in Head-On may not match the awesome twistedness of Twisted Metal 2, but the styling is very much here, invoking a nostalgia that even Twisted Metal: Black couldn't achieve.
Head-On borrows from Twisted Metal 2 in more ways than one. The physics model used for the vehicles in Head-On strikes a canny resemblance to the game's now aged grandfather, with exaggerated jumps and reactions to collisions. The driving of Head-On should be more than familiar to longtime fans of the series, but can't shake the feel of being somewhat outdated. Fortunately, the only time the game's vintage physics are ever really a problem is on the rare occasion that vehicles get stuck in building walls and corners after a particularly nasty crash.
These arcadey physics lend themselves especially well to what's always made Twisted Metal a fan favorite. Multiplaying has never been better taking to the streets of Los Angeles and Tokyo with a group of friends has never been better, as Head-On supports up to six players in one of eight multiplayer modes, plus a two-player co-op mode with multiple difficulty levels. Even the basic death match mode is made new and exciting with a number of adjustable options.
Brought over from Twisted Metal: Black Online are options for collectible relics, power-ups scattered throughout the massive environments that grant special powers like double damage and increased armor.
All of the levels (more than ten total) feature plenty of destructibility, with explodable walls and structures that reveal new areas to trash. A few classic battle arenas, like Twisted Metal 2's Paris stage, make a return with familiar portions along with some new design: Teleport to the top of the Eiffel Tower to blow up the monument as before, and a newly designed set of rooftops is ready to explore. This level of interactivity infuses the gameplay with even more depth and replayability that carries over to both the single and multiplayer modes.
It's great to see Twisted Metal back in its classic form. Head-On succeeds in reviving an almost forgotten nostalgia, bringing back the lighthearted, morbid humor of Twisted Metal 2. Fans of the series need not hesitate to grab Head-On right away, and gamers new to the series needs to check out this great series now and see what they have been missing...

I really enjoyed this game, why? TWISTER IS BACK. Man I loved that car. *Tear drops from eyes*
There are a number of starter characters and unlockables. Please keep in mind that Incog stole the game back from those dirty people at 989 that buchered her. Anyways, it's back at Incog now, and thats a good thing.
Like always, I beleive the story in the game revolves around Needles Kane aka Sweet Tooth. What I missed from Twisted Metal: Black was interlinking of stories, but sadly they didn't have it here. What did come back was the comic-book style endings. These made the endings even more eerie, but not as eerie as 'Black.'
Gameplay
Great as always, although because of the lack of Dual-nubs, I can't do the tight turns that I used to. I also always found it cheap when there were health power-ups all around the stage. Anyways, there are destructable environments, like the ability to destroy the Eiffel Tower. Now that is some great fun, especially online. It gets annoying later on when the computer just keeps freezing you, that's when you wanna do some smashey smashey to the PSP.
Controls
The controls are fine, instead of using R1 and L1 to switch weapons, it's only one button now. Although you can use this button scheme, you can choose others in the options. The joy-nub is too sensitive and too hard for me to use, so now I resort to just using the D-Pad. Also it means easier input for the special attacks like the ice blast.
Replay Value
Tons, it's online. Always a new experience when playing online. If only offline, then I beleive you may only survive 3 characters in story mode before you die of boredom.
The online experience is great, too bad no VoIP yet. My only gripe is most of the people that host games set weapons to unlimited. So you die in 10 seconds as everyone keeps using fire missles. I wish Sony would release a keyboard also so I can actually speak with the players.
Learning Curve: 45-60 minutes

If you haven't had a chance to play this game, you're missing out. Though the real fun starts with the Infrastructure option. Mainly while playing single mode, it seems like the game is letting you get used to the controls. Over time, of course, you'll get better. When you feel like you are ready enough, you can test your skill via Infrastructure.
I've played all the Twisted Metals, and it seems to have the feel of Twisted Metal 2, which was a good idea, because Twisted Metal 2 is the best TM imo. I love this game. The only downside about this game is that it was too easy to beat. Compared to Twisted Metal 2, this game seems half as hard. Also, the remote bomb weapon doesn't seem to have that explosion feel. That's about it!
You'll see me online @ westside. IGN: N I N Y O *

First game I purchased for PSP on release. The best thing about this game is the ability to have infrastructure online play. I only know one other person with a PSP and he lives an hour away so it's sweet to be able to go online at home and play other people as opposed to ad hoc mode.
The action is super fast paced, it's pretty much identical to the console versions as far as speed. Some levels will seem similar (like Paris) yet there are all kinds of additions and breakable areas to access that were not available in the console versions.
Graphics are crisp and beautiful. Very striking and easy to follow on the small screen. It did take some getting used to the controls but thats to be expected with any new game, let alone a new system.
I really can't say anything negative about this game outside of the repitition of these types of games in general. Highly recommend this game for other fans of the genre.
87
I never was good at any Twisted Metals, so I found this one hard. Then when I got used to it, I found it to be great fun. Downsides are really the game is too short, and it gets pretty repetitive.
84
This game is an overall good game, but it has its drawbacks.
Pros
Quick load times
Fun infastructure
Decent graphics
Cons
Extremely short story mode
Hard to handle cars. For instance you turn around to shoot someone but then they're 200 feet ahead of you.
65
This game is very fun when you first buy it. You'll be thinking you bought the right game at first but after you unlock all the hidden chacacters, levels and moves the game will get boring very quick.
Don't be like me and finish it as fast as you can, take your time and enjoy the game.
Twisted Metal: Head on might appeal to hardcore Twisted Metal fans but if you don't know much about this the series then your best bet is to leave this one out.
The main attraction of this game will be the multiplayer mode which allows you to play against 8 other players on either AD-HOC or infrustre (not spelt right)
Graphics: 60
Sound: 60
Gamplay: 60
Fun factor: 50
85
I did like this game when I first got it. I beat the story mode with every character - and played online every minute. Yet, it got old after time.
89
This was my first PSP game and it demonstrates the power we can expect from the PSP. The graphics are top notch, the sound is superb, the controls need work (but can be worked out). What makes TW:HO a great game is it's multiplayer which is it's strongest point. Slightly slower than single player but you won't notice.
The chat room is also a great place to talk. The playabilty of both modes make this game a must buy!
90
Twisted Metal: Head On is one great game. This game is full of action. The gameplay is good. Basically you drive around different areas destroying other cars. There are machine guns, missiles bombs and more. There is single player mode, multiplayer, and an options menu at the start. In single player mode there is story mode, challenge mode and endurance. Story mode is kind of short. In challenge you pick car, pick a level and pick cars to be against. The object of this is to be the last man standing. In endurance mode, you pick a car and a level and the game just throws random cars at you to defeat. In multiplayer, you have the options of AD HOC, Infrastructure and Infrastructure LAN. In options you change settings and view videos your unlocked in story mode. For people who like violence and cars, this game is definetly for you.
99
So far this is the best PSP game I've ever played. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is excellent, and the multiplayer mode is awesome. The story line is cool to follow and makes you want to play all the characters and seek their story lines. This is a must buy for the PSP!!!
88
Playability: Good , Many ways to move around but make sure you read about Sheilds and stuff.
Story: Fun to play through a few times.... but gets Old after a while...
Load times: Fast! W00t!
Graphics: Nothing new but up to par
Sound: Nothing to cheer about but maybe this is why we have fast loadtimes.
[b]Online[b]: This does it well. Although chat is not there at all but deathmatch is crazy!
30
What a waste of $40! It was extremely easy and extremely short. I felt like crap after I found this out since I could of spent that $40 on a better game like Lumines or something. It was fun for a little while but I wish I never bought it.
90
For those who have never played a Twisted Metal game before, let me quickly get rid of a possible misconception. This is not a racing game. You destroy other racers, thats all, there is no time limit or finish line.
Graphics: The graphics are good, bringing back classic twisted metal levels. They may not be as polished and 'shiny' as a game like Ridge Racer or something similar however they are good looking.
Sound: The in games sounds like engines and such are excellent and the soundtrack is of good quality and contributes to the game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great fun, however the game is quite short, only 11 battles. It does have replay value with many different characters, unlockables and different endings.
Multiplayer: Twisted Metal supports both Ad-Hoc and infastructure based online gaming and is great fun online.
Overall: This game is great fun, especially for short bursts and I would put it in anyones game list.
87
Campaign was amazing the first two times I played it. Too bad it's only about 10 short missions, that can be completed within several hours. On the third time through, campaign mode just gets really boring. The only thing that keeps you going are the character-specific movies at the end, which are nice and rewarding, I must admit. Otherwise, don't rely on campaign to last you.
On a lighter note, multiplayer is amazing. Hooking up with people and battling them is tons of fun, it will last you 10 times longer than the campaign will. If you buy this game, make sure you have a brother that is willing to buy it too.
Props for having infrastructure mode, playing online is really fun as well, but it of course doesn't beat the intensity of playing against someone who is actually next to you. Maybe a mic would help?
I would reccomend getting this game just for the multiplayer, but don't buy it new. The game is extremely old, if you just tried I guarantee you buy the game cheap off one of your friends.
95
This game is sweet even though it lacks story lines but online makes up for that. I reccomend that you buy it right away.
80
A great destructive and tactical game, great one for guys who like cars and guns. Graphics are immaculate, as you would expect from the PSP.
87
This is my first game on the PSP and it's awsome, but once I had finished it in single player it quickly lost it's appeal. Although there are different endings for each character it's a bit boring going through it again as nothing realy changes.
The mini games are great fun and kept me playing that little bit longer especialy as each time you finnish one you unlock new character or levels (though the levels you unlock are just smaller versions of the levels you already have).
Multiplayer sounds good though I haven't had the chance to try it yet as I know no one else with a PSP yet (I live in the UK). Realy fun to play, nice graphics a bit of clipping apparent but nothing that affects the game play, load times are a bit long, great game just a shame that its so short lived.
93
Before I begin, I would like to point out that, although playing the previous Twisted Metals helps you understand the story a bit better, it is not required, as the story is not what makes this game a must-have. I, personally, have played every Twisted Metal game before, Twisted Metal 1-4, and Twisted Metal Black. I believe that this game is an excellent addition to a long line of great games. I would also like to add that this is my first review, so please, bear with me...
Now, I am aware that I said the story wasn't that good above, but with each character having a unique storyline and ending, it offers some intriguing short stories that may not be awe inspiring, but are still fun to see unfold. The main story is that Calypso, once again, hosts his tournament where drivers with weapon-loaded cars, trucks, motorcycles, etcetera. fight to the death with the others. The last person standing gets one *magical* wish to be granted by Calypso, who usually twists the wishes around to make things bad for the winners. Each character has their own sub-storyline, including things like their previous histories in the competitions, their desired wish if they win, among other things. Albeit the story itself isn't that superb, the combination of the main story with the sub stories is enough to keep anyone occupied.
One of the best sounding games ever produced on a handheld. Between the realistic roar of the engines, to the *PSHOOM* sound the injection of NOS (game calls it "turbo" creates, this game has it all. The weaponry also sounds highly realistic. Between the cackle of machine gun fire, the swooshing of launching missiles, and the loud bangs of explosions, you will be convinced you, yourself are driving in the vehicles of destruction! This game offers superb sound quality.
It is very hard to rank any PSP games less then a 10 in graphics, as even at their worst, these games are far higher quality then anything we have seen before on a handheld. Though they are different then the graphics found in Twisted Metal: Black, they take us back to the goodness of Twisted Metal 2. Really seamless graphics, there is very little choppiness, and everything runs smooth. Though definitely not making a game great, if all else fails, these graphics are excellent.
This is really difficult to score. The controls themselves aren't really that bad, but since this is a launch title, you need to get used to the PSP's control system, and since this is a constant action game, using three dimensions, you will have to adjust to controls rather quickly, or your ride will be blown to pieces. A positive thing, though, is the ability to change the controls to your liking (you can choose from a wide variety of control schemes). It took me a few hours to adjust to the controls of the PSP, but once I did, it was smooth sailing.
By far, the gameplay in the game has changed the way I look at handhelds. It is literally that good. Basically, you pick your ride, and battle it out in a real-life themed arena, ranging from the modern, urban Tokyo, to the ancient Egypt. Many things are completely destructible, ranging from entire structures to the common traffic found in the urban levels.
You have a large arsenal of weapons to unleash. Napalm, three types of missiles, bombs, environmental weapons, and a special weapon (each character has their own, unique, powerful move), just to name a few. These weapons have limited ammo, and you must find pickups on levels to get more (though it is VERY easy to find, and their is a cheat code for unlimited ammo). You also have a secondary weapons, which, on most characters, are high-caliber machine guns, which can be upgraded. These guns have unlimited ammo, but can overheat if used too much, which leads to a brief period where you can't fire the guns. You have "energy weapons" as well, which include things such as shields, freezer missiles, invisibility and other things.
Although the main idea is to fire your weapons to destroy the opponent, there is also much strategy involved. Do you want to add some quick, heavy damage to an opponent to finish him off later on with the machine guns, using up all your initial ammo? Or do you want to collect lots of ammo, finish the opponent off quickly, but run the risk of being destroyed while trying to collect ammo? Gameplay on Twisted Metal is one of two selling points of Twisted Metal: Head On.
Let me break this down for ya'. It is, THE BEST multiplayer experience I have ever played on a handheld, and rivals that of the consoles. You have your normal "Ad-Hoc" mode, which allows you to play against up to 16 people within a 300 meter radius of your own PSP. This alone is a great feature. However, it gets even better. It is one of the few launch titles to be able to play online. That is right, online. Ya' know, PS2 Online, Xbox Live, PSP Online? Yeah that. Although at the current time I am writing this review, they are fine-tuning the servers, which occasionally kick people out of games if they create a room with a high "ping" number. This should be fixed rather quickly, however. I have played this online, against other people. Let me tell you, there is nothing more satisfying then "jousting" with another person, on the opposite side of the country, and firing that last missile to blow him up, right before he nearly blew you up. This is selling point number two of the game.
Although the single player is not as good, in my opinion, as the multiplayer, I find myself replaying story mode over and over again. It never really gets "old", as no two battles are ever remotely similar. If you ever get bored with story mode, then you can simply play challenge mode, where you more or less make your own battles, or endurance mode, where you fight an infinite amount of opponents to see how long you last. There are plenty of difficulty modes to choose from, as well, which can get very challenging. You won't be let down here, I promise you.
This is most likely the best handheld game I have ever played. It has the same multiplayer abilities to make grown men cry, and a single player mode to match. There is a wide selection of vehicles, arenas, and modes to toy with. I have to say, you will not be let down with Twisted Metal: Head On. It is a DEFINITE must buy for multiplayer, and a buy just for single player as well. Well now, I suppose it is time I stop typing and go play this eh? I hope to see you all you readers online soon!
65
I guess you have to really like the console versions of this game. It was ok but got very boring after playing it for a short while. I will admit the graphics are decent and the play is very smooth. I would only recommend it if you are a big vehicular combat fan, otherwise there is nothing all that exciting here.
95
This game is a must buy. It was the first game I bought and I thought I was back in Middle School playiing the orginal Twisted Metal, but much better. This game is as close to the orginal that we all loved, but with better graphics, great comic book type movies, and a classic cast of characters. The online play is great. The only downfall is the load times, but still not that bad.
85
Now, we’ve all played Twisted Metal that classic demolition derby game that included deluded, psychotic character, machine guns, and over-the-top weapons galore. Have you ever wanted your psychotic-car-gun-mayhem on the go? Well here’s your wish-come true. That’s right, thanks to the folks at Incognito Entertainment, who also brought us the godly God of War earlier this Summer and now they’ve gone and dug up Sweet Tooth’s grave.
Yes, you have. Calypso has decided to hold yet another Twisted Metal competition and he’s out to grant the winner their greatest wish, which of coarse always back fires on them in either a hilarious or utterly ironic way. Me? I’ve always loved Sweet Tooth and his merry batch of travelers but they’re getting old and I’m tired of them...I was absolutely disappointed in this. But, story doesn’t really matter here does it? I will give the game some slack here, since the characters are interesting, if not stereotyped by now.
That’s right. As soon as I flipped that switch I was utterly shocked, even by the title screen. All of the vehicles of mass-destruction are well rendered and had amazing details for any portable port of any game. The levels? The color is a bit weak, except in the Tokyo and Monaco levels which are my personal favorite. Now, the special effects are rather weak. The flames on Sweet Tooth flickered in and out, explosion glitched out as you’d drive by them and overall I’d say that the two balance out to a mediocre combination.
Now, I am an audio buff, especially when it comes to my home systems and even I have lower expectations for a portable device but, damn did I underestimate this title. The sound design was dynamic each car having it’s own unique sliding effect and the special weapon sound effect just sent shivers down my spine, knowing your about to get nailed by Twister’s tornado or Warthog’s patriot misses homing it to blast you to smoldering aluminum while praying to god it doesn't hit.
And now, for the Holy Grail. Does this play almost exactly like every other Twisted Metal title? Yes. Is that bad? Hell no. I’ve always loved Twisted Metal and it’s run n’ gun fast-action five minute Game play are a perfect match for any portable console, especially the PSP. If Sony didn’t own Incognito you would have thought it would be on every portable on launch. This is where TMHO thrives and knives, I love the gameplay!
91
This game came with my PSP, and at first I didnt really care about it. Then I went to my friends house and played it online with his Wireless Network! OH MY GOD! It was great, you could chat, play and trash talk! No buddy list was kind of dissapointing. This game isnt reccomended if you dont have a Wi-Fi hotspot, currently using my nieghbors connection (he doesn't know). AI is ok, but playing with someone else and then reflecting on gameplay is great.
89
Everyone needs a variety of different games for PSP. I guarantee you, no matter how many you have, yours won't be complete without this title. I was bored at first, but the multiplayer is just too much fun to pass up.
Graphically, it's amazing. Sharp, clean, smooth images dominate 95% of the time with some iffy little images coming here and there. The gameplay is very fast, and easy to do. It's very basic... drive, shoot, kill. Doesn't get much easier than that.
The one killer is the loading times. If you thought NFS was bad loading-wise, you'll be shocked to find that this one is much worse. I find myself bored to tears waiting for that stupid bar to go one notch up.
If you're a multiplayer person, get this, and make your friends get it to. Storyline wise, it's weak, but otherwise it's a decent title.
91
Fairly good playability, although the single player gets slightly repetitive. Online play is quite addictive, as is playing with friends. The biggest problem is figuring out how to get your friends to buy the game!
95
Reminds me of vigilante 8 on the N64, the good old days
99
This game is absolutely amazing! I played it for about 4-5 hours yesterday, 2-3 of those hours being online play. The battery lasted quite well even with the WLAN running, even though the back of the system became a little hot while playing online.
The graphics on the sampler disc are nowhere near the actual game play. On the legit disc, the graphics are much more crisp and the music catchy. However, overall the great qualities of this game, I had to remove five points due to loading times. I understand that this is no big deal for some, but I don't like to wait for things.
The single player mode gets a little old after a short time (-2 points) and the ending movies are all basically still images with sound (-2 points). With all that, this game would receive a rating of 91, but I cannot post that as I can not get over the online play. When playing over the internet or ad-hoc network, the game almost doesn't lag! There is no more than a 0.5 second pause when I grab weapons in the game, and it affects the game play to an extreme minimum. It is much agreed that this game performs better online than I thought, and far surpassed my expectations. For this I will add 8 points as it truly deserves them.
I can not give it a perfect score due to loading times, but if it weren't for that, then it would get my two thumbs up!

When I read mixed reviews of this game on the net (ie, "not bad, but...." , I wasn't very surprised. After all it's a BIG series that had to be shrink for the new small, platform. And then I bought it for the local gaming magazine I co-work with. GEEEZ ! How is it possible? How they did it? It's the old, FUNtastic, pure-killing-shoot'n'run gameplay idea IN THE BOX !! They delivered everything: from wide selection of contenders, through many useful weapons to big maps. Graphics are gorgous: SFX, crashes, explosions, smoke trails, smooth texture work and framerate - there is EVERYTHING you could dream of in an in-car shooting game - and on PSP! Any complaints? Only a few: there could be more game modes (only 3 available for single player), cars are not heavy enough, and lack of proper "weight" makes steering difficult - very sensitive analog work. And one important thing: it's fun like HELL but not a breeze - you'll sweat a lot (and add to that 3 difficulty settings). All in all - HIGHLY recommended for fans of the genre. If you're not - give it a try.

This is a very fast, fun, madcap (insane?) game where you drive a monster garage-type vehicle around attacking everything in your path. Although the basics are pretty obvious - drive around, pick up ammo and shoot stuff - the game is actually pretty intricate, and loads on the complexity with special key sequences, mini games and mystery objects than endow special powers to the holder. Although this gives the game a lot of depth and potential, it jacks up the learning curve for us mere mortals.
The single player mode apparently has a story to it, but I haven't found one yet - but that does not matter too much, the game is fun anyway! The character descriptions in the manual read suspiciously like they've been translated from Japanese, not in terms of their quality but in terms of their weirdness! If the story really does unfold as I progress that will be good, but for now, this is a stateless death match type game for me.
On the negative side, I really get the feeling that I'm missing a lot of the potential of the game because I keep on dying too quickly. It's only by playing it again and again that you get to learn what all the various power-ups do and learn appropriate circuits to run on the maps. I'm a FPS death match veteran and I've never come across such complicated, multi-level ways to destroy other players. Note that I wrote "destroy" and not "kill": there's no blood or guts in this game as far as I know, just mechanical mayhem and twisted metal (yep, that's the title). However, the game is good enough to keep me coming back to it to try and learn this stuff - for now anyway. Update: If you get enough power-ups they carry over from level to level and it's possible to survive a lot easier. This makes for a hard start but at least I'm not dying so quickly!
Just like the rest of the game, the violence is completely over the top. Your whole car can get frozen like an ice cube, flamed with napalm, rammed, electrocuted, drop huge distances and yet recover if you grab a blue cross health pack. Everyone's health hovers over his or her car and there is a certain amount of satisfaction in pursuing the guy who's low on it and nailing him. Unfortunately, everything happens so fast for me, I'm never really sure what I'm nailing him with - It might be a fire missile, or napalm, I'm never really sure! The only weapon that doesn't seem to do much damage is the machine gun that's standard on everyone's car although it can be upgraded to be more powerful. When you begin this game I recommend getting the heavily armored vehicles so you survive long enough to learn how to play.
Graphics-wise, the game ranks high, but not as high as say Ridge Racer IMO. The menus and loading screens are a little low-res, very green and full of irritating warnings not to remove the Memory Stick but the actual game play is native resolution and looks great although the textures are not very realistic. Having said that, nothing in this game is really meant to be realistic anyway!
Twisted Metal has three types of multiplayer, online, LAN and peer-to-peer, of which I've only played the online one (can't find a fellow PSP player yet around here!). The online connection hooks up to a server on the Internet and there are 4 lobbies, North, South, East and West, which seem to relate to your geographic location, but you can choose any of them. You then pick a game from the ones running or start your own. I found this particularly hit and miss. Sometimes I'd connect and get to play, other times, the game would bomb out with an error saying my wireless connection wasn't working properly. As far as I can tell, there's no problem with my connection and the issue was something to do with the game itself. UPDATE: The "Message of the Day" on the server now says that they are upgrading the servers to improve performance. I got on last night without a problem and played some exceptionally fun games.
Anyway, if you do get a game going, it is very fun. There's a huge number of options for the game creator (wow, it's easy to forget this is all for a portable game system and not a PC) such as changing what type of weapons are allowed, setting games to be coop, last man standing, team-based, etc. In this respect, if you like online shooting games, you'll really like the opportunities this game provides. For me, the online play was THE reason I bought this game. I love multiplayer and wanted to use the WLAN on my PSP.
Although this game is fun, it doesn't get 100 points from me for three reasons:
1. The online multiplayer kept on kicking be off for unknown reasons (others have found this problem too) UPDATE: This seems to be fixed now.
2. The graphics are good, but not amazing.
3. It's a little too complicated and has a steep learning curve.
However, it does get 90 points because it is fun and I love the online multiplayer.

awesome game from the original incognito guys who invented the genre, and did the series right (tm 3 and 4 by 989 don't count, right?)
anyway, multiplayer adhoc is hot. whuppin' up on some friends in close quarters rules. esp. when your buddy starts whining about getting pwn3d!
infrastructure mode is wicked too. twisted is one of the only games to even DO this. the servers were shaky at first, but after they ironed 'em out.. it's been rock solid since. (look for my game online: DeadByDawn)
go buy it.. you won't regret it.

Bought this game first with my purchase of the PSP. Got it mainly for the internet capability, but also for the shoot-em-up action! Popped this game into my PSP and boy was I amazed. The intro movie is perfectly cel shaded and introduces the characters pretty well. But once I played it for the first time, I was hooked. I haven't played Twisted Metal since my PS1, and this game brought back old, happy memories.
The graphics are amazing. The explosions and collision sparks look incredible, and the detail of the vehicles is great! The arenas and cities you play in look amazing and have plenty of stuff to blow up, including the Eiffel Tower of France and ancient statues in Eygpt. Some arenas are small, but others are fairly large in size, so you're not looking at the same stuff over and over.
The sounds effects and musical score are above average. When wearing headphones, you capture the sense of stuff happening all around you. Like the crashing sounds, explosions, and whirring of missles hot on your tail.
The game is fairly easy and will take you less than 4 hours to beat on normal game setting your first time through. When you finish the game, you are treated to a comic book ending for each different character. These endings, although not animated, are very well done. The voice acting and ambient sounds pull you into the still pictures and make it seem more real.
There are plenty of unlockable characters/vehicles and levels as you play the game. And with each character having different stats and special weapons, the replay value is there. There are also mini missions/games placed secretly in most of the levels. These games are fun and require different tasks to complete (ie. blowing up taxis, racing and jumping over gaps in the road), and are a fun addition to a great game.
The online aspect of this game is what most people have been complaining about. Server instability and lost connections haunt a lot of players, but I can only assume this is temporary and will be fixed as Sony fixes and improves their servers. Personally, I have played online many times without a hitch.
Overall, this game is a must play. If you're concerned about re-playability and value, go rent it for sure when it comes out at your local rental store. Then make your own judgments.

Twisted Metal: Head-On is truly the best game so far. The graphics are amazing, PS2 quality. The music fits the enviornments and the game is very fast paced. There's nothing like driving up a hill and shooting the competition underneath you. The only problem about the game is that it tends to freeze up during gameplay but that's only for a second.
Recommended to anyone who has a PSP.

Twisted Metal: Head-On is a really good launch game. The Game, un-like Gretzky NHL, has the key components of a good game. Its got really fun gameplay, pretty stunning graphics for a launch game, and an online system that is very user friendly. This is a great game, that should be one of your first games. I love the fact you can play online in battles, OR CO-OP. In twisted metal, you dont really need a lot of communication, with a team mate, because well lets face it, you just blow crap up, and drive, so CO-OP works really well on Twisted Metal: Head-On.

I got my hands on Twisted Meta: Head-On yesterday, and i was extremely excited. I popped it in and waited for the intro movie. When it finally came, I was in shock. The graphics for this game are extremely well done. I started off with some single player story mode. Everything is well balanced... except that gameplay seems way too fast paced. When you turn around to meet somebody to shoot at them, there are already long gone and you have to resort to your radar to find them. This makes gameplay extremely difficult. And a word to the wise, don't use the analog. Your car loses pretty much all of its handling too, but since cars have secret abilities by pressing a sequence of buttons on the D-pad you won't want to use it anyway.
Luckily for me, I have a wireless router in my house. As soon as I started up the Twisted Metal multiplayer, I was extremely dissapointed. When I could connect, I was shortly disconnected afterwards. I could view the lobbies but everytime I joined a game, I got disconnected. It got extremely frusterating after 25-30 failed attempts. Thouroly mad at the game, I pulled it out and popped in Spider Man 2 (The Movie)
Pros
Awesome replay value
Fun and exciting story
Cons
Analog isn't worth anything
Speedy gameplay
Wireless connection problems
