For the first PSP game I own, I think it is really great! The graphics are pretty good and gameplay is so-so. It is very much like Boulder's Gate for PS2. People say load times are bad. They arn't that bad. It usally takes between 30-60seconds to load.yet, it does load everytime you enter a new area. I gave this game a 90 because it is the only game I own right now :-P and it is really fun. Gameplay is pretty fun and the weapons, quests , and monsters are all very cool.
90
Yea I deffinetly enjoy playing this game, it's most deffinetly one of the best Rpg's for the PSP.
80
I loved this game. I'm not into RPG's that much but I have to say I really enjoyed it. Im currently a Level 32 Druid. Once you get into it, itll consume you...trust me
60
First off the sound is ok not the best but could be better and the graphics are the best thing about this game and they still could be better. Then the load times OMG belive me or not but I went to the bathroom and it finally loaded right before I was done. The load times are horrable. This looks like a ported version of champions of norrath with a few mods. The only reason this got a 3 is because I'm a huge fan of RPGs, but unless you like 5 minute load times with last gen sounds and graphics with little replay value then do not pick this one up.
92
I liked the whole game. Although it didn't have a real story driven base it was fun to play. It could get a little repetitive. Mostly I get addicted to RPG's for the level cap, which is at 50. You can build your own charater from 4 different classes. The game is kind of short and you can finish at level 30 or so, but the mosters level with you this wasn't something I particularly liked, but overall it was a solid RPG and I liked it.
90
I am mainly an RPG gamer lol, well so I picked up Untold Legends about a week ago. It's a perfect game except for the load screens. They aren't long it just seems to be annoying and you can here the UMD spinning around.
This game has pretty nice graphics and gameplay.Although the game play can get pretty boring you can always create a new character or buy new armor or level up and get new awesome abilities. If you got this game I suggest alchemist, she gets some awesome abilities in the end.
80
It is very much like a PS2 game which I can't put my finger on (something like Baldurs Gate). You collect shelids and swords and power ups. I enjoy this sort of game although it is repetitive.
60
I think it is a bit too much like Diablo. I was kind of expecting it to be like that, but this one is too similar. The graphics are ok, the load times are long, but the sound is pretty good. Really repetitive actually. It's still a good game, but I dont think it is worth what you will buy it for.
69
This game is fun but sometimes you starting to loose focus on the real deal in the game. The story is quite good but the constant running for miles is taken most of the time in the game. I love it though that you see how the character changes when he buys new armor and stuff and that cool, but I have to say that I got boored after maybe 5-6 hours total.
But hey. Its a good rpg game but is don't have that little extra *
90
It's a nice game, it is alot like the online game "The 4th coming" but this one at least ends.
70
This game will keep you busy for a while. The story is kind of repetitive and the missions are not very original. It will remind you of the first D & D role playing. I will give it an OK rating (70%) since even if it isn't a super original game, it was the first one released for PSP and also because I spent hours (>27h) playing it mostly in the plane (I travel often). Hopefully the sequel will have more original and complex missions.
75
I wanted to like it. It was one of 2 games that I bought when I got my PSP. Maybe I'm jaded, but this game seems like it's designed for children, or first time RPG people. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING that makes me *want* to play an RPG has been watered down, taking the value out. From the fact that there are TOO MANY types of weapons/armor <making NOTHING special>, to the 400 mini-quests that are all fairly identical, the entire game feels like an IMITATION of a good RPG.
I know it's convenient, but it takes the challenge, and therefore the FUN out of the game to be able to teleport home any time you feel like. You don't lose anything when you die! Where is the STORY? Where is the challenge? What keeps you from taking chances? The quests should all tie together into the main story line, but most of them don't even seem to have a point of thier OWN let alone one tied to the main quest. You have no fear of LOSING anything and without that you can't value anything.
The graphics are good. They really remind me of the original Diablo game. Good, but not great. To be fair, I'm quite impressed that this can be done as well as it is on a handheld, but I'm jaded by games like Halo and so I expect alot from graphics nowdays.
I think Sony's really really dropping the ball here by not porting 'Everquest'. It seems like a no brainer and the 'portable' aspect would make it a best seller amongst Everquest fans. Heck, they'd sell a ton of PSP's just to them!
Lastly, they dropped the ball by not allowing for online multiplayer. The ability to trade items and play with your friends would make this a game many might even pay a subscription fee to play! ESPECIALLY if they continued to update the content!
To sum up. Good but not great graphics. Ok gameplay. Poor implementation and almost 0 replay value for a mature RPG fan makes this one of my least favorite games I own for the PSP. I hope I'm wrong and you find this game rewarding, but don't be suprised to find yourself wanting more.
86
Good game with great looking animation and scenes. Pretty straightforward in the pretty much linear story line, but never seems to get boring. This has kept me up many nights and had me playing it in the back of crazy San Francisco bars, ignoring my girlfriend etc.
65
This game is all hack & a little bit slash. I mean, it's fun but you'll get bored quick, put it down for a few months, then pick it up again and have fun with it. It's really easy to get into and basic. The worst part which I must scream is:
NO ONLINE MODE!!!!
I shelled out $40 for this game and no online? Twisted Metal had it and it came out before this game, BS. This game was rushed out. I heard it took only 4 months for them to make this game, slackers.
The next game should be good but I wish SOE would give us suckers who shelled out top dollar for this game a downloadable update instead of making us pay $100 total (both games) for a decent rpg hack & slash. Hopefully by the time the 2nd one comes out, there will be plenty of other games I want instead and I can avoid getting screwed by SOE a second time. But i'm not bitter or anything.
98
This is 1 awesome RPG.
82
After several months with Twisted Metal, I realized I really needed a good, long single player game. Since I have always been quite fond of RPG's, I soon ended up owning this game.
Graphics
I must say, the PSP's graphics really amazes one who has been staring into the screen of a GBA for several years. This game's graphics may not be the best, but it certainly is very nice. The game plays very smoothly, with little slow-downs. The background is very nice and also very detailed.
Sound
The game's music is not very intersesting to listen to, so there isn't much to say there. The sound effects are nice, such as the (if you turn the volume up a bit, you will hear it) footsteps of your character, and the crackle of fire. The biggest thing that is lacking here is some voice acting.
Playability
The game is very fun, even though things can get a bit repetitive. There are plenty of missions to play through, and even if you finish, you could always play again with a different character class, or even revisit the game with your high level character.
Load Times
The load times are considerably long and, though I haven't timed it, some say the load time is as long as 30, or even 45 seconds. In my opinion, I think (as mentioned in captain's review) that the load times is a great time to take a stretch, and let your eyes have a short break. Yet, for anyone who is constantly going back and forth from dungeon to town, the load times can be quite a pain.
Overall, I think the game is worth the money, and is great, considering it is the first RPG for this handheld. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to try the multiplayer so I can't remark on that.
50
I think this is my favorite real-time RPG. Nothing really comes close, this is a great game. Multiplayer is addicting, the load times can be a little long. Sometimes the graphics are great. This is a great value for this game.
1
This game is super boring, don't buy, it it is horrible. I hate it. I wasted 40 bucks.
40
At first I loved this game, hacking and slashing was fun. But after many levels and hours of game play it all went downhill.
Graphics: Well they're not great and they show how far we have come in these few months. And the Chars dont change much and the monsters just cycle over and over again in different colors.
Sound: Same blood music forever! And same sounds for like every thing and sadly no voice acting that really would have helped.
[b]Load times]b\: Gah Theses are some of the crappiest and you get nothing for all the loading. You even have to wait for a pic of the people you're speaking with to load.
GamePlay: The game's like this; kill monster X in cave Y and get Z . Repeat for the rest of the GAME!
This is just not fun at all! The best part of the game is the starting 30 mins, the rest just gets bad.
10
This game is suited for the hack and slash type of RPG fan. I like rpg that tells a grand story such as what you would find in the Final Fantasy type games found on the PS1 and PS2. I played for about 20 mins before I realized that I made a mistake. I'd love to sell it but I lost the UMD somewhere in my house. Doh!
68
UTL is a good game to get if:
a) You like hack and slash medieval games
b) You feel that strong plots aren't relevant to fun games
c) You are looking for a cheap launch game and nothing else appeals to you
In UTL, the controls are innovative and make good use of the PSP's buttons. You pick your character from four differnent classes which your stats and special abilities vary. Then you walk around and complete tedious and repetitive quests, which mainly consist of killing large amounts of non-realistic creatures.
You pick up armor and items throughout the game and it is uncharateristically (for RPG's) easy to stay strong in proportion to the enemies you're supposed to be killing.
The plot isn't strong at all and the sense of humor is pathetic.
93
I know there are lots of people out there who don't like this game, but trust me, if you like Diablo or any similar game you will love Untold Legends. The load times are one of the big reasons some people don't enjoy this game but they are not that bad (they are shorter than the 2 PS2 norrath games) and don't put me off in the least. All in all this is one of the best PSP games out there.
85
For someone like me who isn't really much of an RPGer, this game really opened my eyes.
Upsides
Great graphics
Great animations
Decent replay value with 3 different character types
Downsides
LOAD TIMES - If it wasn't for the load times this game probably would have gotten a 10 from me.
On the Edge
Sound - The music was only okay, and the hack/slash FX got a bit monotonous, but it didn't really affect my opinion of this game.
90
It is a cool game gets a little boring but is still awsome.
77
The first RPG for the PSP, Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade sends you in battle the moment you begin the game. There are four different classes (Knight, Alchemist, Druid, and Berserker) from which you choose. The graphics are ok and the sound is like a Lord of the Ring ripoff. Overall the sound and graphics are 65/100. Get the game or wait for the next one.
95
This game is rock solid when it comes to Hack n' Slash RPGs!
Its a solid RPG, but the story is a little lacking. I found it a little too hard to pay attention to the story because of the lack of dialogue.
The graphics are just AWESOME! I love to zoom on my Warrior, and check out his hip armor! Sony really kept to the RPG PS2 style of Everquest which was quite nice!
Load times were a sucker punch tho. Often long, you'd wait about a min, or two for the game to load up. The sounds are pretty average, nothing to say here.
Gameplay, and Graphics hold the game togather, and with average sound it makes it a great game to get for your PSP!
+ Graphics are great!
+ Gameplay MANY MANY ITEMS, MONTERS, QUEST... ect...
+/- Less boring Dialoge/Little Story
- Load times will kill you!
Recommend!
76
Gameplay: Not anything special, almost exactly like Champions of Norrath. The interface, gameplay, and spells even look vaguely familiar from Norrath.
Sound: The monsters and spells sounds pretty good but thats about it. Music was the generic "different music for the different themes".
Multiplayer: Thought, living up to Norrath, online, probably the best part about it, but not in Untold Legends. Huh, couldn't find a single server, nor did I really want to.
Overall: As some may have heard me say before, If it appeals to you go for it. This is no different here. I loved the Norrath games, but just didn't want to play a look alike on the PSP. I didn't even finish the game I disliked it that much. Check it, Untold Legends: Brothergood Of The Blade.
51
Until something else comes out this game will do. It is nothing more than a great time waster. The game seems to do nothing more than send you on little missions that gradually take you further away from your starting point and will have you completing the same levels over and over and over again. The graphics are not bad, the magic spells look cool and sound effects are what you would expect from a game like this. I bought it full well knowing that at some point I would use it as a trade in at some point (I am ok with that). If this is your thing get the game if not get it anyways and trade it later.
PS the load times and amounts of loads is deplorable.
90
I was so excited about this game, that one week before I planned to but the PSP, I bought this game. So far its all I expected. It's awesome!!
94
This game was excellently designed for the PSP. Remember, portable games dont have the intention of a home game console. With RPGs it is inherent that they are easy to get into and out of, without forgetting what you last did and where you have to go. This is up there with Diablo 2 for me. I've been playing RPGs since freaking Adventure for the 2600 came out. I've played HUNDREDS. Many have become over contrived and complex. They've fallen flat on their big heads. This game offers a lot of customization on the characters and is the definitive sleeper hit of the PSP. So sop wasting time and checking out these reviews. Pick it up. This is a permanent on my PSP collection. I am playing as the Druid (I do wish the famialiars were more creative than a tornado and tumbleweed tho) now, and will move on to a Knight next. Keep in mind kids, this was throughoughly thought out for portable play, and these guys have done a great job on it. Load times are bearable too. Ok, let me get back to work. You wont be wasting time with this!!! Enjoy!!
85
If you've ever played champions of norrath for PS2, you know exactly what to expect before you even take the plastic off the case. Right now I am a level 21 knight and I enjoy the game, but there are downsides
Pros nice graphics, lengthy game, customization of characters to an extent with weapons, accessories, armor, and abilities and skills, complex and full environments. People say it gets old, but I haven't experienced boredom with any aspect of the game except the damn loading times.
Cons: load times between places SUCK, they are so much longer than needed. Also, as one of the other reviews said, the missions are mostly the same. The environments are huge, which is good and bad because to complete some levels, you have to go through 3 different unknown caves or fields or woods to get to the boss who has the magical item you are looking for.
It deserves a 85 from my point of view because I loved Champions of Norrath and the whole console RPG genre and feel. But I know other people will not give it as high a score as I did.
98
Super cool graphics. All the dungeons look very slick. The textures and effects in the game are good enough that it almost looks like an isometric 2D title (which is a good thing, IMO).
The gameplay is very responsive except in multiplayer mode which gets choppy every once in a while (but is still quite fun). The story in the game is sort of "optional". It's not a hardcore RPG but instead comes off as a hack-n-slash.
The multiplayer action is cooperative; so it's fun to play with your sweetheart or a friend with a PSP. I'd highly recommend this one. It's one of the best PSP titles I've played so far. I rented it and based on my experience - I purchased it.
65
I eagerly got Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade as my first PSP game, having played it some on my friend's PSP. I popped it in, played it, and seeped in the PSP goodness.
Graphics
The graphics are good, a nice display this early in the systems life. Putting different items on will affect your character's appearence. There are many types of enimies, most just versions of base enimes with swords, bows, staffs, etc. The Sound takes a nosedive, with all of it being repetitive. Be prepared to hear the same grunts, crashes, and clangs, all with the same music.
Gameplay+ Lastability
Three words: Fun at First. After playing for around 3 hours, I realized that the entire game runs on the same formula. It goes like this: We need Y for our magic thing. X stole Y. Slay X and bring Y back to us, and then you will do the same in a desert / forest / snowland / lava world / underground. Customizing your weapons and looking for bigger and better ones adds a little to this game.
Load times
Looooong. About 45 seconds inbetween each area. You can probly clear an area in 4-5 minutes, and then wait nearly an extra minute for it to load. Your inventory screen is loaded in a few seconds. Switch between a sword and a bow and you'll carry nothing for a while as the bow loads. Very Annoying. I have literally gone to the bathroom while this game loads.
I'll give this game a final of 65/100 for long load times, boring gameplay, and worse sound. My recomendation: get it preplayed or wait 'til its around $20.
75
Not edge of your seat frills, but it's a good first wave game. I've found it to be very long, but confusing most of the time due to the massive-multi-tiered environment.
Pros: Surprisingly Good Graphics, Lengthy Game
Cons: Confusing environment and tasks
90
I was hesitant at first. Having read so many bad reviews of this game. But I guess everyone's taste is different. I have such a hard time putting this game down! Very addictive! Sure the graphics, sound, and music are nothing amazing. But the sheer fun of the game itself just works. I have read alot about the weak story. Big deal. It's actually pretty interesting and I still find myself wanting to know what is next. I still have only tried one character, so I am looking forward to trying the other ones (definitely adds some replayability).
I'll admit if you don't like Diablo type games this will not convert you. But if you do then stop reading this and go buy this game. You will not regret it. The biggest downfall I found was weight management. I constantly found myself not being able to pick up an item because I was overweight, so I had to zone back to the city, sell the excess, and then go back again to loot it (enduring load times each way) BUT at least they made it easy to teleport back and forth via a simple menu choice (removing mindless running around to try to find an exit).
*must get better weapon...* *must kill next boss...* Good stuff!
91
It is a pretty nice RPG. I like the gameply and the action. The only thing that I dont like is the loading times, but I get over it.
91
After reading many reviews on this site, it seems apparent that quite a few of the lower scores for this game have come from the writer lacking any participation in a multiplayer game. In my opinion, the multiplayer aspect of UL is what makes the game great.
This game has gorgeous graphics, awesome effects, a extensive yet simple leveling system, cool environments/enemies, and tons of items! Now for the record, the plot is weak, many of the characters/items are generic, and leveling system is simple, but isn't that what you expect from a hack n slash RPG?
If I wanted a complicated RPG with a wide learning curve, I would go play D&D. The beauty of this game is it's simplicity, which allows 4 players to instantly link up, and level up together! Trading items is a breeze, and the money dividing system is a nice touch.
Honestly before making a full review, I recommend that everyone try the multiplayer experience with at leat one friend. It is a ton of fun!
50
Untold Legends is another hack-n-slash courtesy of the Norrath engine we’ve all come accustomed to on the PS2. Now, watch as I take every wave of monsters, four classes, and uber weapons and smash them into a small little 4.3 inch package. Draw your sword young warrior, because here come the hordes. String your bow and strap on your mail, this is going to be a bumpy ride...
Graphics
Now after such gorgeous titles on the PSP such as Ridge Racer and Wipeout I
thought I could expect some pretty wicked graphics...nope. Just like any hack-n-slash the character animations are clunky and uninspired, just like everything else here. The textures seemed washed out and bland with your generic buildings and such. The forest effects were god awful, I almost wish my +10 strength axe could cut all those ugly tree downs. What about the spell effects? Hah, what about them? They are nothing more then sparkles around you after casting that leads to another clunky animation. I was heftily disappointed. Rating - 5.0/10
Sound
The sound design in this game is pretty well done, all the sword and shield clanks and clings are all there. Voices, of coarse not. War cries that repeat every time you see the same enemy? Yeah. It’s mediocrity that you can hear so well you don’t even need to look at the damn screen. Why do people repeat the mistakes of history?
Rating - 5.5/10
Story
Ok, here we go. You, in some sort of ceremony or such are chosen as the “Guardian” of the City of Aven. Your suppose to protect some girl who was chosen the same as you. What follows is orcs stealing stuff, fetching antidote, and killing giant spiders...it’s all boring crap-as-usual. You’ve heard it a thousand times and I’m personally tired of it! Rating - 4.0/10
Gameplay
That’s about it. You hear monster, then see, then kill. Using whatever weapon you can find. Bows, Spears, Swords...every mediocre medieval weapon imaginable. Can you say more mediocrity? Again, I’m tired of it. Come on Sony, we could use more than this! The controls are not badly done and I’ll give the game props for it, they feel much better than PS2 controls. Rating - 6.5/10
Mediocrity across the board, if you like that go ahead and buy it.

Ah, hack 'n slash RPG's. Ever since the original Gauntlet was released in arcades, there has been a dedicated fanbase for hack 'n slash RPG's. One of the most notable ones is Sega's Phantasy Star Online and Sony Online Entertainment's Champions of Norrath. Untold Legends was developed by SOE, so it plays similar to Champions of Norrath for the Playstation 2. Here is my review.
Graphics
Pros: The game has excellent character models and enemy models. The backgrounds are also of very high quality.
Cons: Although the models are nice, they aren't very original designs.
Audio
Pros: The game has very good weapon sounds.
Cons: Sadly, weapon sounds are its only strong point. The music is very mediocre and repetitive, and the character voices (well, their grunts) are annoying. These are the worst quality of the game.
Gameplay
Pros: If you've played Champions of Norrath on the Playstation 2, then you've played Untold Legends. Fortunately, it is very easy to learn the controls, and the hack 'n slash gameplay is always fun.
Cons: It's a little unbalanced. My level 19 character is decimating every foe he comes across with ease. Also, you cannot use the d-pad to move your character, which is a minus in my opinion. Also, it get's a tad repetitive.
Multplayer
Sadly, I haven't been able to try multiplayer yet.
Load Times
The load times aren't insanely long, although they aren't "short" either. Fortunately, each area of the game is rather large, so unless you're warping back and forth between the area and the city of Aven, you shouldn't get annoyed.
Recommended: Yes
This isn't the best hack 'n slash of all time (Phantasy Star Online holds that honor) but it is a very fun game, despite its repetitiveness. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Gauntlet/Norrath style games.
75
Hack and Slash Action
Like Diablo II for the PSP - Just smaller and wimpier.
Story - 6/10
Sadly, there isn't too much of a deep story to Untold Legends, the storyline is rather shallow. Your character starts off in the village of Aven, the winner of a competition to become the guardian of the village. A series of "strange" events unfold and once passive creatures begin to attack Aven - this is where you step in. Being the Champion of Aven, you have to defend the village single-handedly against a horde of unimaginable evil. And that's about it. The whole game revolves around protecting Aven by going through other lands (similar to Diablo) and accomplishing quests. The player also pieces together bits of Aven's past through tomes that are acquired from missions.
Nothing really good to say about the story in the game. It's nothing deep and meaningful, but it's enough to keep you engaged for a while.
Gameplay - 8/10
I admit that I was rather satisfied with the single player gameplay. The controls are easy to learn and master. There's a learning curve to the game of about 10 minutes. Everything is quick and simple to access, and the control layout is comfortable to use.
Gameplay consists of little more than moving around the Untold Legends world and killing monsters, picking up their loot, and gaining levels. It's exactly what you do in Diablo, but it's not quite as fun because there are very few attributes that can be added onto weapons. Prefixes and sufixes are denote special weapon attributes and the quality of the weapon. All weapons that are not unique can be imbued for free by using a special item, so there's a little customization that can go into your weapons.
Like Diablo, there are abilities that can be developed in a skill tree. Players get more skill points as they gain levels, and by the time you reach level 20 you'll be receiving 3 skill points per level gained. The number of skill points players gain ensure that there is a unique spread of skills and no two players will be exactly the same.
I have not experienced play through Ad-Hoc mode, so I am not sure whether or not Player Killing is possible. I believe that Ad-Hoc mode only allows players to team up and beat the game.
Gameplay will either keep you playing the game or will make you stop playing after a few hours. It's all based on what games you like to play
Music - 3/10
Just a few low-quality songs played over and over again. Nothing special. The music is at a low bitrate, and sounds tinny.
Overall - 7.5/10
If you can find this for around $20-25 USD, then I'd suggest you buy it. It'll hold your interest for a while, but there are definitely some improvements that can be made to the whole package. The single player game will take tens of hours to complete. I've gotten bored of Untold Legends, but it's fun for a while
89
Good game, could be better.
80
This game iis kinda like WOW, Diablo, and Baldurs Gate combined. Fun but I wish there was more to the game.
85
I bought the game when I got my PSP and between this and Whipeout Pure it's the only games I play. But I digress, the game is a very good hack and slash but the weapons and armor can be so-so at times. During the end (I'm playing as the Warrior) you only wind up using a few weapons.
The story so far is surprisingly good but there are some missions that are hard to figure out at first. Eventually they get finished. Overall I like the game and would recommend it but I'm wondering how it is with the other (IMO) lesser classes.
90
First game I got and the one I love the most. I have already finished playing the game with a Knight and I just started a Druid. It plays very similar to the Baldur's Gate series for the PS2. There are a lot of quests (almost too many) and the dungeons are different the second time around.
Multiplayer is very fun. I play with a friend a couple times a week and it does not bog down during critical moments. There is only slowdown when the game is loading graphics for items in you inventory.
There are a couple of things I wish they would fix.
1) Level limit. To my surprise Level 50 is the Max. I wish I had know that ahead of time so I could have planned.
2) Although there are a lot of items to choose from, the selection of "enhancing stones or items" are very limited and abundant. Meaning only a few different items and easily acquired. You can't even combine them.
If those 2 items were more similar to Diablo then this game would definately be a success like Diablo was.
60
There is nothing special about this game. This is just an average hack-and-slash RPG clone. The story is almost nonexistent. The load times are ridiculously long, and you have to wait everytime you leave town, or go into another area. Also, when you are accessing your inventory, you have to wait for the images of your weapons, armor, items, etc. to load again.
The graphics are the ONLY good point (but then again you have to wait for the graphics to load). Turn off the crappy music to save battery life. There's no replay value at all. There's only four different classes, and the gameplay is so lackluster, boring and repetitive that you won't want to play the game again. One major gripe I have is against the BOSSES. They are WEAK and easy to beat.
I've never bought a single item since I've begun the game. I've sold dozens of dozens of health potions. Yes there are probably over a thousand items in total, but theres about 100 variations of the same item. Also, all these variations look exactly the same, they only differ in stats (except if you modify your weapon with a stone, then the weapon will glow different colors). A little simple math and you realize that there aren't that many *different* items.
If you want mindless boring gameplay and you don't want to think about strategy, then this is the game for you. Otherwise, don't waste your money like I did.
86
A surprisingly good little hack-n-slash RPG. While not as versatile as something you'd find on a PC these days, it certainly gives older fare like Diablo a run for its money. It's almost exactly like Baldur's Gate- Dark Alliance. Nice graphics, decent sound effects horrible music, and quick gameplay. It supports the PSP's ability to suspend a game and resume immediately, making it a good game for playing in small bursts when you're out. The skills and equipment systems are basic, but make it more than just a lame Diablo clone.
The bad? The aforementioned music (I turn it off), the standard nature of the gameplay (it IS only a hack-and-slash game) can't be awarded any points for originality, and it can get tedious doing the dungeon crawl things for long stretches. The game save system requires you to pause, save the game, and then continue- It desperately needs an autosave. The multiplayer loses points for only having native support for ad hoc sessions, and completely ignoring online gaming.
Final verdict? A worthwhile game, but not a real display of the PSP's power. Just a nice, simple diversion if you're into fantasy RPG games.

Untold Legends was a pleasent surprise for me. It's a mix of Diablo 2, in how action packed it is with real-time combat, and a mix of Baulder's Gate with how the quests are so in depth.
The game is like Diablo, like I said with it's action packed gameplay. The gameplay is fastpaced. You can play 4 different classes with different ability trees also like Diablo. If you've played Diablo you know what I mean, you have to take basic skills and work up different branches of the trees to get higher leveled skills.
The quest system is also deep. But, at times it seems slow. But don't let that deter you, the action packed gameplay is enough to keep that afloat even if you don't care for questing.
The game is very long, and has a lot of replay value. You can play it through at least 4 times with a different character. And there are a TON of items. Rare, common, uncommon weapons and armor and everything else in a good rpg.
The controls for the game are also very responsive. I don't really see anything wrong there.
The only reason I docked points is because of the camera view. Don't get me wrong, the camera is fine! It's above and a bit askewed to the character just like Diablo and BG. The reason I took 5 points off because you have to hold a shoulder button and move the Dpad to change the view. It's a bit too much to do in a hetic battle, so you should do it before you go into battle.
A must buy for anyone who likes Action Packed hack and slash RPGs.

This game is awesome!! It is like Baulder's Gate, pretty much the same graphics too. If you don't like hack and slash rpgs then you would not like this, but I love them. Sure, it may not have the best story line but the graphics are unbelievable. Once I saw the screenshots for this game, I knew right then and there I wanted it. An even better thing is that you can play multi-player! I love the ability to change your view too, it improves functionality and really shows off the graphics in upclose view. One thing that could be improved to make the game better though, is blood - although it would then be rated mature(most likely). I highly recommend this for people who enjoyed Baulders Gate and I would still recommend at least trying it if you haven't played Baulders Gate.

The game is a carbon copy of most hack n slash games, the one good thing it has going for it is the multiplayer is well setup. The only problem I have with the multiplayer is that you can't join a game that is already in progress, that would be a nice addition. Besides that the game is fun, the graphics look great, and the multiplayer is addictive.

This game was better than i expected it really came through for me since it was the only rpg for launch. The graphics on this baby are lovely not quite ridgeracer but sweet none the less. Controls are easy to use and adjust to and after a few awkward moments of play its smooth as silk.
The different classes provide emensely varied gameplay,
Druids- heavy magic users with all around good traits (my begining class)
Knights- Strong with swords and bows your classic slasher
Alchemist- Uses summoning powers as well as other odd abilities
Beserker- A strong fast killing machine they do alot of damage and have high health
The few flaws i did find in this game was how it seems to get a lil repetitive there are some interesting twists and im not finished with the game yet tho so maybe it will improve. The load times get slightly annoying but its nice to take a quick break at times. But the most annoying thing in my oppinion is how most of the maps are incredibly dark and extremely difficult to play in the light.
Over all i like this game a good solid buy and its at the lower end of the price range, a must for any rpg fan.

I love this game. Everything I could ever want from a hack n' slash game and more. Fully customizable characters and everything. The graphics are great as is the gameplay. Only complaint is the sound but I don't listen to game sounds much anyway. All in all, great game that will provide hours of fun.

Being absolutely a PC FPS or strategy gamer, it was quite shocking how much I'm enjoying this game... I played the first Diablo back then but it never really caught for real. This one is a very-very good Diablo-clone, plenty of maps and items to play with. Sometimes I was kinda clueless how to beat the next enemy, so I miss some bult-in tutorial or help in-game help system but otherwise I think it was probably one of my best deals for PSP.
