I found this to be the best available freeware video program for the PSP to convert files.
Pros
It's free, you can't beat that.
It can transfer almost any file... many others just say they can.
It has a smart UI that works simply and painlessly.
It creates the .THM (thumbnail) file using the opening window of the video.
Cons
Conversion is extremely slow.
Is not available for the MAC.
Anyone with a PC should definitely get this. It's free and converts the necessary files that you want to see.

I love PSP Video 9. Bot only is it free, but it's very easy to use. If you don't have it get it.

This is easily the best video converter out there. It is VERY easy to use, and allows you to transcode at a whole load of different quality settings, and then easily transfer, rename, and move movies to and from the PSP. Except that it is VERY slow, this is perfect.

It is the best thing ever, still haven't figured out how to convert my media center files but otherwise it is great!! Tip: make sure you create the MP_ROOT file first!

This program is an amazing little guy. Not only is it free, but also updates relatively regularly. It’s user friendly and easy to figure out how to convert your movies to PSP format. You can create a list of movies you want to convert then go away and do something else until it’s done. The only problem I’ve had is that I cannot use the program to transfer the movies to my PSP. This is not that big of a flaw and it most likely does not affect most people. You can use another program called Videora that you can use to download your movies, convert them, then transfer them to your PSP all in the same program. This uses BitTorrent though so other users may be uploading videos off of your computer. This program is a little slow, yet it is free so you can’t complain. That’s why I give this a 9 out of 10.

Well what can I say this was the first converter I downloaded and it was great. The sound was fantastic the picture was pretty good and the time to encode file where nothing. But when I decided to encode a anime episode the mouthing was off! And that is why I stopped using it. And the other thing is it doesn't encode .rm or .rmvb files witch are files I usually want for my PSP. Overall it's pretty good, well it's worth the download.

I have used this program since I bought the PSP back in April. Overall it works like a charm in every aspect except for 1. The THM creation I found to be a little user unfriendly, but this is not a key feature of course, just a nice little addition. It is easy to make THM files via PhotoShop or any other photo editer/creator. I also found that the status bar is not always accurate, sometimes it would display 100% complete and keep going for another hour or 2, again not terrible just annoying. For a free program these flaws are easy to overlook, but they are still there. I have tried 3GP, PSPWare (trial), and other convertson tools and have always stayed with PSP Video 9. Now that they are starting to delve into H.264 (AVC) support it is just going to get better from here.

I like PSPvideo 9 because it's free and you can control the overall quality of the video, and because it copies the videos it converts right to your PSP. If you're low on cash and need videos bad get PSPVideo 9 now! On a scale of 1 through 10 I give it a 9 because it is a little slow.

The guys that put together PSPVideo9 should really be commended for their work. Not only are they doing this as freeware (!) but they've also created the most stable and versatile conversion program out there. There are a couple of file formats they don't include yet, but these can easily be converted via other programs outside of PSPV9.

Other programs out there are supposedly better, but not by much. This is all you need if you know how to use a computer.

I couldn't find any good DVD to mp4 converter until I found video 9. The process takes about 2-3 hours. But it's worth the wait. If you are someone who likes to watch dvds and other videos get video 9 today.

It does an excellent job in converting videos for you once you test and configure the settings to what you need. The program gets the job done but lacks in several ways.
Ways to improve PSP Video 9:
Auto detect framerate and resolution and auto select the conversion profile. The auto selected profile should be configurable.
Add a delete option in the management screen
The batch conversion needs a "Start" button. I'd like to rearrange the order in which video files are converted before the conversion starts.

I'm not the biggest video conversion guy on the planet, but I do like to convert a small video or two once in a while. PSP-Video-9 is great for a number of reasons. Here is my review.
GUI (Graphical User Interface)
Pros: Simple yet effective interface allows anyone without the "tech" skills to operate.
Cons: None
Conversion Speed
Pros: Since I do not care about speed, I find Video-9's conversion speed to be very quick. Of course, it all depends on what you call "fast" and the size of the file.
Cons: I found no cons in it's conversion speed.
Ease of Use
Pros: Very simple interface makes it easy to use.
Cons: None
What can I say, PSP-Video-9 is perfect. It works with Windows and is worth the download.

No crashing. Amazing quality with no loss of frames or sound quality. Complete customizing ability for file formats. Did I mention it is insanely easy to use? Just a few clicks of the mouse and you can have any video from your PC right onto your PSP memory card. Oh yeah, and it's FREE!

After I got my 512 stick, I needed something to convert my movies over to the mp4 format, and this is what I found. It's an excellent program. While easy to use, it does give a lot of power to the user in terms of conversion. You can set the sound quality, the resolution, etc. It makes putting movies on my PSP a simple process.

I'm a professional Broadcast Designer and live to make Video. I have used many other freeware programs out there but NONE were as solid as this one. I actually use the Video Function on the PSP to get signoff on designs, and animations.
1. PSP Video 9 automatically resizes your video to fit the screen
2. Allows you to specify how high quality you need it to be, along with sound quality.
3. It tags on your ORIGINAL NAME,
4. and a killer little THUMBNAIL, so when you access your videos
in the Menu you can see a name you understand, and a little image that reminds you of what's in there.
5. not to mention it does a great job of managing your videos, lets you see what's on your computer Vs. your PSP kind of like many FTP programs.
6. it also does a wonderful job of adjusting your Video Levels to complement the PSP's gamma which is Mucho Dark.
I would Definitely recommend this software. Only for PC I believe

Unfortunately I still only have the 32MB Memory Stick, so I haven't been able to do much. But with what I have been able to convert, no program has made it easier then PSP Video 9.
With Rapiz, the language issue becomes difficult at times. Although I can change it to English, NOT everything is translated properly or successfully. Also, when I tried to convert at the highest quality (1500kbps), it wouldn't play back on the PSP.
I then decided to switch to 3GP, very simple program, but so simple that I feel I'm jumping too many windows to get the job done.
So that lead me to PSP Video 9. Developed by a student at Carleton University, I'm pretty impressed. He is also the creator of Videora, a video casting program, but from what I hear, completely compatible with the PSP for PSP Casting, so that's a bonus.
The program allows you to easily select your file (avi, mpg, m2v, etc) and select the quality, and with one click it will convert your file. Without having to jump to your Windows explorer, you can even copy and transfer files.
With the simple set up screen, you can easily direct your conversions to a folder easily accessible if you want to use Windows to transfer videos to and from the PSP.
I only found 1 fault in this program that made me give a slight lower mark then 100. I got confused when starting the conversion because the Quality level I selected kept defaulting back to a lower quality when started. This got me thinking that the conversion was completing at a lower quality. I couldn't be sure this wasn't happening until I tried rendering at different sizes. But after running that test, it seems it converts at the selected quality correctly.
Well, it's a simple program. It converts EVERY type video file I've had so far, and all successfully without any hitches. I totally recoommend this product.
