Reading the other reviews it would seem that the Pelican power brick is ok, but for me the thing burned out the instant I started charging it. It may be that this one was defected.

Pros: Portable, Small
Cons: Gets hot!, Confusing Cabling
Ok so it gets a little hot, mine hasn't blown up yet as the rumors have it. I have used mine extensively due to Hurricane Wilma. I would leave this in my car on the car charger so I had a way to charge my PSP while we had no power. It worked great with little to issues, the cabling can be a little confusing since the instructions were crap. It worked great for charging 3 PSPs during the hurricane over a period of 6 days.

I got a Pelican Power Brick from my local Best Buy store and it seemed to work fine but got REALLY hot when it charged (so hot I couldn't keep my fingers on one portion of it while it charged). I've experienced hot hardware before and know it's not ideal but I let it go. I just always charged it in front of a desk fan I had handy. I've experienced hot hardware before and know it's not ideal but I let it go. I just always charged it in front of a desk fan I had handy. I got about 4 charges out of it before it became a Pelican Brick. No power. The LED light didn't work, the batteries didn't give me any juice. I wasn't surprised after the heat issue that the thing had died. Maybe it was defective. So the store offered an exchange for a different one. I appreciated their effort since it was more than 30 days since I'd purchased it but had hardly used it. The second one wafted smoke out the tiny vents the very second I plugged it in! Horrible smelling acrid smoke. I immediately unplugged it and had to open all the windows to get the toxic smell out of my dining room. 30 minutes after exchanging my first one, I was back at the store to ask for my money back or a store credit. Seeing that it had been a couple months, they tended toward the store credit (which was fine).
I have an upcoming 10 hour plane trip and want to use my PSP the whole time if the urge strikes me, I wanted an extra battery. I ended up getting a Datel External Battery with Stand for $10 more and it was immediately evident the Datel battery was a step (or two) up in quality even if the Pelican batteries had worked as advertised. The Datel had a charge level check button which would light up to 4 LEDs depending on the amount of remaining charge. The Datel battery got warm (not hot) during charge, and the stand it came with was nice because it gives you the option to attach the external battery to back of the PSP or with the included longer power cable, stash the battery in a backpack or pocket.
In summary, I would NOT feel safe leaving a Pelican Power Brick charging unattended and I'm surprised by the low quality of this item given my previous positive experiences with Pelican products. Two faulty batteries doesn't indicate a fluke to me, it indicates a faulty product design and who knows how bad the smoking battery would've gotten had I left it plugged in.e me any juice. Really, I don't know what people are talking about when they say that it is difficult to figure out, its not! This thing is so simple and easy to use, and cheaper then almost any other product of this kind. I get about a charge and a half from it, giving me over 10 hours of gameplay on my PSP. It does get really hot the first charge, but I don't think its anything to worry about.
Without a doubt this is one of the most effective and useful PSP accessories.

I bought it, and now it's sitting in a drawer somewhere. It could charge while playing, but it took like 6 hours and it did get hot. I had a problem with the brick staying charged itself. Maybe it's just the one I got, or maybe Ii just like having the extra battery I bought (no wires).

Before my voyage to Taiwan to visit some relatives, I invested my money in a Power Brick. It resembles nothing short of a square-like hockey puck. It is difficult to figure out what goes into where (believe it or not) because the external battery pack comes with a charger that links itself to your AC adapter port in the PSP. It's hard to fit into the Power Brick itself, and took me some time to actually jam the thing in there, until it began to work.
The battery life of your PSP is increased by a big amount, and the power brick actually does what it says on the box. (except for the charge up to two times lie, try more like 1 and 1/4). When I charged it for the third time, the LED refused to blink (signaling a full charge i'm guessing), and didn't even charge my Power Brick one bit. What's more is that I was stuck without PSP gameplay for almost 9 hours. bah.
Overall, this was a great product, but what saddened me was the inability to charge twice in one go. Oh well, no product is perfect.
Pros
Design as small as the UMD Panel door
Excellent choice for domestic flights
The fact that it can charge your 1 and 1/4 of the way
Cons
Weird, hard-fitting AC Adaptor Cable
Pelican does not perform the greatest quality-wise

Can't speak for others but the power connection on my brick to the PSP is pretty spotty, I usually have to wiggle it to get the PSP to start charging. This of course makes it useless if I'm playing a game and charging at the same time. If I keep it still it's fine though. Still, for $20 it's nice to be able to charge on a long flight. Cheapest way to keep your PSP running longer.

I got the Pelican Power brick just to see why G4 said it was the best PSP all around accessory, and I see why. I've been playing many a game only to have my system shut off due to the drain that the game pulls. This little 20$ brick will save you your sanity by allowing the PSP to charge up to twice while playing without straining the actual battery. The green LED is a huge help when charging it, it blinks when charging and is steady when full. You can plug it inline with the PSP and charger, but it does get very hot. Just go out and buy one becuase we all know we are all too broke to buy the Nyko Theater thingie.

Cheaper than the X2 Battery by Datel for ony 20 dollars and you get the same ammount of battery power. Good Value. At first it gets hot, but nothing that I haven't seen before in a lithium battery. Usually the first charge is hot due to the chemicals reacting for the first time. It's not as bad as some people say it is. It's cheaper than buying that 60 dollar Nyko charger case and it still gives you the same ammount of energy 3600 mAH. Overall, its a very good buy.

It can fully recharge the PSP twice before needing its own. It's small so it can be thrown in a bag or pocket and doesn't take up a lot of space. It does help if you're watching a lot of movies or playing Ridge Racer on the road.

Wow! Pelican did good with this one!
I was a little weary when looking at this since the last Pelican product I bought took alot of modification to meet my expectations. I took the dive anyway.
I bought the power brick 2 days ago, and charged it immediately.
The first thing I noticed was the extreme heat it created.....(Here we go) I let it charge even though I was a little worried about the heat. I also emailed the pelican support team as well. They said they know about the heat, but the second charge wont be as bad...(ok, if you say so). It did take a little longer to charge than it says, but it was the first charges maybe it needed more juice?
Today (day 3) and a tad over 20 hours of play later, I charged it for the second time (very little heat this time). I couldnt believe they were right!
I am not only happy with the power block, but ecstatic! It seems to be alot higher quality than I expected, and it is allot smaller size than what I had expected as well. When looking at it online it looked huge. I cant believe it only cost $20 now. For the money, this is the best accessory I have bought for the PSP.
Good job Pelican! You have redeemed yourselves in my book!

After two charges, it's dead. Check the hardware forum for more info from other owners. I really wish this would have worked as promised.
