Now this is a great product. Like always, converting Video takes patience and time. Its pretty ironic that the name of the program is Image converter but i use it mostly for converting Videos. Anyways the program has an easy to use GUI, pretty user-friendly. The program has never crashed once for me as other programs have, 3GP and especially PSP Video 9.
Heres a quote from John Koller, a Sony Product Manager, "Yes, Sonystyle.com will be selling Image Converter 2 to convert any of your photo, video or music files to compatible formats on the PSP. This software should be available shortly. "
Anyways heres the whole process I took:
1. Extracted the DVD movie to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter. You may also use Smart Ripper. Both are free.<File Size:3.5 GB>
2. Hmm files are big, gotta convert to Avi. Using Super DVD Ripper, I converted the .vob files to Avi. When you choose compression, choose Microsoft Windows Media. <File Size: 450 mb>
3. Ok now Add the newly converted Avi file to the list in Image Converter 2. And connect your PSP with a reasonably sized Memory stick. Remember to set your psp into USB mode, under settings. Image Converter will automatically convert the Avi into MP4 as it transfers it to the PSP's memory stick. <File Size: 55 mb>
55mb for a full-length movie. Now that is impressive. Although the whole process took about 4 hours. If you want to save space on your memory stick then go through this process, and get the most out of your money. Oh and Super DVD Ripper is shareware, with 9 free uses.
Conclusion: Good Software! Nice GUI! Stable Software! Oh and for you Anime lovers, logically Anime movies will be smaller than live-action movies. Reason? Well Anime is drawn at 12 FPS. NTSC movies go at 29.9997 FPS.
Took a 5GB movie file, decrypted/ripped it to my HDD, converted the *.vob with PSP Video 9 and created a 'quality' 500MB MP4 file. Took that file and ran it through Sony's Image Converter with a quality of 192kbps and set it to divide files at 70min of video: ended up 2 files at a total of 186MB, but they fit easily on my 256MB Duo. The video/sound quality are more than adequate for my tastes!
First off let me say this thing is slow (Well at least converting wmv3 codec files). It took me about 3 hrs to just select 27 eps of Trigun to add to the play list and another 11 hrs to convert them. The GUI is vary user friendly and vary easy to use.
It will convert just about every video file and pic file you have ever seen and does it quite well. I have tried 96k and 192k formats. I would not recommend using the 96k (Looks really really bad) But the 192k works really well for subs and a 24min ep only takes up 52MBs. It keeps the sound vary crisp and when I was using the 96k it still sounded perfect.
All in all its a vary good piece of software and would recommend to just have it on hand if all other pieces of software fail this will probably work.
