If you've played the console version of this game, you'll know mostly what's in store. The PSP version has the sprawling maps with numerous race types, loads of loot to be won and an incredible assortment of tuner modifications that can be made. As you've surely read by now, the games obscenely long loading times can be unbearable. Most of your time with Midnight Club 3: DE will be spent waiting for it to load, rather than playing. If you're not dedicated enough, chances are you'll be seriously unhappy.

This is a very fun and great game for the PSP it has a very lengthy career mode and offers a large variety of cars, bikes, SUV's, etc.
There's only one problem with this game, and that is the game has some frame rate problems. But other than that the games is great, for 20$
it's worth all your money.

I'll admit, I was hooked on Midnight Club 3 on PS2. But this version is like drinking a liquified version of your favorite food. It's the same, but someting is missing. I'll tell you what's missing; loading times under 30 seconds. To load a race, expect 1:20 in loading; the shop, around a minute. It has better graphics than any other PSP game Ive seen, but it'll cost you your time. Don't get me wrong this is a good game, but you'll have to exercise patience to play it.

59
This game is pretty cool, but you're gonna have to wait a long while between each race.

Best racer out there, but the loading times are the worst out there, too.

While it has been out for some time now, I have finally gotten to a point where I feel I can write a decent review for this game. While this game wasn’t one of those games you can’t put down, it was still a great quality game that I’m glad to have purchased. While there is a plethora of other racing games available, I feel Midnight Club stands its ground amongst the competition.

Graphics
- 85
While they aren’t the best graphics I’ve seen on PSP, this game has very good graphics and lighting. I love driving through the cities and watching the different lights off the buildings reflecting off my car. For the most part the graphics are fairly clear and crisp but the occasion jagged lines are prevalent. I enjoy modifying my cars and seeing every new modification on my car from the decals, to the body kits, to even my custom license plate with the state plate of my choice. To make a long story short, I’ve been adequately satisfied with what I’ve seen.

Sound
- 90
All the sound effects have been great and for the most part are very realistic. The screeching of tires while I peel out or drift fit just fine, while collisions sound great.
I don’t listen to that much new music so I can’t say I’ve heard a lot of the songs before, however, they match perfectly for the feel of the game and there is a wide selection of music to choose from as you are driving.

Gameplay
- 80
There are a lot of options for races in this game as you advance through the 3 different cities available to race in. You have your tournament races, exotic races, sports bike races, chopper races, truck races, sports car races, not to mention the open races which move you along the game, in which you can usually use any vehicle of your choice. While all these races are in the career mode, you have the option of a quick race and arcade races in the main menu which is exactly what you would think they are. For this review I will focus on the career mode. You basically start out being able to buy some of the lower end cars in the beginning and work your way up to buying the faster cars, bikes, trucks, and so on.

You drive around the cities looking for races and there is a map which helps you easily locate the race you want. For the most part your races will be free roaming style races in which you are in charge of making sure you are going the right way. While a lot of racing games almost require you to use the better cars along your way, I found that I was able to get through a lot of the main races with the lexus IS300 that I got from almost the get-go. Something to note is the special abilities for the different vehicles. The first one you will probably encounter is the zone, which is basically bullet time for the sports bike and tuner imports.

By driving good and not smashing into things, you will gain the zone. It helps with sharp turns, avoiding traffic, and sometimes makes it too easy to win races. Trucks have the ability to ram traffic out of the way while choppers have the roar to scare cars out of their way and put them in front of other cars. For me personally, I don’t like to use the special abilities so much because I like to leave the challenge in the races and keep it feeling like a traditional race.

Replayability
- 90

The different race styles and different vehicles and their specific handling make this game good for replay. Whether or not you want to play the arcade races or the races in career mode there are a lot of options to meet your racing fix. They have many different arcade style races which allow you to play “paint the town” style of racing where you race around capturing as many sections of the city as you can. However, like I said, this review will consist mostly of the career mode as the arcade mode will take a lot more time to review.

You could go through the main races with just a car the first time through and have a completely different experience going through the game with a motorcycle. I love racing the import tuners like my Nissan Skyline, but I love weaving through traffic with my Ducati motorcycle like I have a death wish. The vehicles all have very different feels to them making it a different game to race with them all. While I have raced the majority of the main races, I’m still only 60% complete due to all the side optional races that you can partake in.

Overall

Pros
This is a very well balanced game with good graphics, good gameplay, and good replayability. There are tons of vehicles at your disposal with even more customization options for each. It falls short of being a great game but it definitely is a good one. It feels very well made and I have failed to see an instance that it has felt like it cut corners on production. In the end, you’ll forget that you’re playing a handheld portable game.

Cons
It can be hard to navigate on the open ended races even when using the map. All races take place at night and even though there are well lit arrows to point you in the right direction; it can still be hard to see which route they are pointing to. One other thing to note, LOADING TIMES of course. You will not hear someone who has played this game not complain about the loading times. They range from 20 seconds up to a minute. They are the worst loading times I’ve seen so far, but it’s understood when you see the cities that have to be loaded.

I recommend this game to any hardcore racing fans that like the illegal street racing theme, import tuners, or just a racing fan in general. For those not into racing games, you still might have fun customizing cars to the limit and flying it around giant cities so you may want to rent it. I do not regret buying this game in the slightest.

90
This is the only PSP game that has been ported froma console, in the history of handhelds. Not only can you completely pimp out your car, but you can have more than 10 cars at a time, inclusing motocycles. You can also have them throughout expansive cities like San Fransisco and Los Angeles. Frankly there's just too much to do in the game. The races are intense and the only downsie to this game are the death defyingly annoying load times. That can sometimes last up to 2 minutes. It's Crazy!

88
Although Midnight club 3 is the best racing game (with no machine guns or rocket launchers on the side of your car) I've ever played its not for on the go. When i'm in the middle of a race the last thing I want to hear is someone asking me a question and making me crash and just completely lose the race. Midnight club is more of a do something else while your playing game because it takes so long to load. If you want watch tv and when you hear engines running go back to your PSP and have fun, game might make you want to set it down after having to wait another time for a race to load.

80
This game looks amazing, and is fun to play. What more could you ask for? How about better load times! The load times are this games only downfall. Customizing cars and bikes is a ton of fun, you can add anything from decals to pipes that run down the side of the car, and you can even chop the top on classic cars.

A must own game for the PSP. It gets an 80 from me due to the loading times.

96
Very good and customisable with alot of different features, cars, motorbikes and levels. If you wonder whether to buy this or Need for Speed, Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition beats it hands down.

90
Midnight Club 3:DUB Edition is an amazing games with one fatal flaw: load times. They can last over a minute, which is incredibly boring. To add insult to injury, you have to load anytime you go to and from the garage, the levels, and the races, which is usually every couple minutes. Have a TV or a computer nearby, as 1/3 of your playing time will be waiting to play.

Anyway, the first day I got this, I stayed up all night playing it. The customization aspect of the game is awesome: you can everything from tuning up your car to adding flashing neon lights to multiple layers of paints and metallics to custimizing you liscence plate.

Graphics - 90
The visuals are amazing for an early PSP game. You can see reflections in the streets and cars. The cars (that you drive, not the randomly generated populous) are very high quality, but there are some small flaws in the models, but nothing major.

Sound - 80
The sound isn't amazing, but it is good enough. There are a few different crash sounds and tire screeches, but the meat of the game is the visuals and driving, which is handles well in my opinion. The soundtrack has lots of songs, most is hip-hop, rap, and dance hall. There is some rock and alternative thrown into the mix, too.

Gameplay - 95
The handling and controls in MC3:DE aren't hard to pick up and are easy. Racing is pretty fun, especially with multiple nitrous injections and using 'Zone' (kind of like bullet-time for cars;works very well). The AI is good in this game. In the beginning, they are very easy,(duh) but increasingly get smarter, but not too fast or too slow (like other games). When not in race mode, and you are just cruising around, you can find silver Rockstar (the developer) Logos for added unlockables. There are a lot of unlockables; most of them are new rims oe decals, but you will get better car classes and higher level performance parts every now and then.

Overall - 90
The amount of material they fit (3 HUGE cities, over 30 (I'm estimating) detailed cars and motorcycles, wireless playibility, extra modes (Arcade, Grafitti, etc..) and more) onto a tiny 1.7 GB disc is amazing. Though the load times are a pain, I DEFINATELY reccomend this game.

90
I really liked this game. Its kind of hard to controll, but once you get used to it the game is hard to put down. The graphics are quite good and the only thing that brings the score down in my book are the horrible load times! It takes a good 4 minutes to get from one section to the next. The sound is pretty good and the game play is awsome. There is a huge assortment of cars, trucks, and bikes to choose from along with many ways to customize them to fit you.

Overall once you get past the loading this is a really cool game 4/5 in my book! this is definately a game to add to your collection

89
This game was great on the console and still is for the PSP. The up to five minute load times is a bit extreme but look at what you get, I think it's worth it. Bummer there is no damage though (except for the smoke). There are a few glitches though if you go through the car selection quick enough it gets the manufacturer's logos confused. The controls on the game are nearly perfect, this is one game where you can actualy see a difference in the cars performance after you upgrade it. If you want another racing game for the PSP pick it up, if you don't have one but realy want one you might want to wait for Burnout. If you need one right now definetly go with this one.

94
This game rocks, I like the whole open city thing. And the best part is that you don't really need to be good a6 racing games to get good at this game.

85
First of all, this is a great racing game. I am not even a fan of racing games, but the smooth, exciting, gripping gameplay and ultimate, unmatched customization, from vinyls to hydraulics to spoilers to body kits, plus TONS of performance upgrades, and awesome graphics make the bad loading times well worth the wait. I highly recommend this game to racing fans and non racing fans alike. 8.5 out of 10. Great game. Would be 9 if it weren't for the loading times.

94
I love the gameplay compared to other racing games I have played such as Tokyo Extreme Racing, I mean the controls of the car are like real like on this game, a nice set of graphics it has too..

I like how you can customize your car, my favorite car currently is the Lexus IS300. I have a custom paint job, dubs, neon lights underneath, tinted windows, NOS, rear to front airbags, custom taillights, spoiler, decals, body kit and MORE! Thats probably the greatest thing I like about the game, you make your car how you want. It also has a great arcade mode, which I like to play "Capture The Flag." :D

You can get street bikes, chopper style and the racing ones, I like the Ducatti. There is a great selection of cars, trucks, motorcycles, which are in different classes. Class D being the start out cars (slow :P)
Up to Class A I believe being the fast cars, like the F1 Mclaren, Lamborghini Murcielago, and more. The game has three cities (San Diego, Atlanta, Detroit) with alot of different races, you can race other racers, club races, tournaments and more.

One thing I think could be changed a little is that you HAVE to get 1st to complete the race, you don't get off with 2nd, although you get a portion of the money. Here's a tip: if you're losing and behind a car, and almost to the finish line, pull off a slipstream turbo and take the win.

Overall, MC3 is a great car racing game, and will remain one of my favorites. In a way it reminds me of Grand Turismo, but I like the features on this game better. Get it.

88
It's a good game overall, but the one flaw it has is the load time. The graphics are extremely great. The song selection is good, but it would have been perfect if there was some System Of A Down or Metallica on there. But I too agree that it would be better if it was a little more than just a racing game.

99
For such a small device, this game is great. Lots of cars and game play. The races even get harder and more intense. Love it!!!

85
I haven't played Need For Speed: Underground, but I bet it doesn't suffer from interminable load times. This game has the longest loading screens I've ever experienced, more than 1 minute long! But, it's always worth the wait. The game has impressive graphics and really enjoyable game play. Even with the load time, I was able to play with some dude on the NYC Subway yesterday for two races, even though he was getting off in a few stops. You find yourself "preloading" races and then putting the PSP into sleep mode, to plan ahead for your next session of play. But seriously, the game is really fun and the customization is just incredible.

85
I like the game mostly for the mini games. With some control issues, I find the game frustratingly hard at times, especially when playing the career mode. Still it is a good port from the console.

65
Without a doubt, you know that MC3:dub is gonna have good graphics but that's about all it has. The game takes forever to load and I mean it. You might as well walk your dog and come back and then perhaps if you're lucky, the game might be ready.

For realz tho, the wait time is a pain in the you know what. the gameplay isn't much fun either. All you do is drive, dodging obstacles and follow arrows but once you slam into something you lose the lead no matter how far ahead you are. That doesnt make sense.

Don't waste your time with this game. even NFS underground is more fun than this, not graphic-wise though.

95
Well, as far as im concerned, I think this is a great game even though the load times are kinda long but hey, it's worth it. The ability to change literally allmost EVERYTHING on your vehicle is incredible. This is a game I think that just about any racer fan out there should either own or rent.

95
I've played the release games for the PSP (WipeOut Pure, NFSUR, RidgeRacer) and they were lacking in almost every aspect of a good racer. Enter MC3 DE, and BAM!! Everything got better.

The game plays as smooth as I've seen in a fast paced game for the PSP. It is more in depth for customization than NFSUR. The overall look is breath-taking. Everyone's beef with the game is the loading. Yes, it is long, and can get irritating, but in the end it's worth the wait.

For me, not being a racer, I am very impressed with the game, a good solid addition to the growing list of great games on the go. Props go out to Sony, the company who owns us all!

92
I think this is so far the best game out for the PSP. It's a slick arcade style racer that lets you mod the heck out of the cars. Everything to paints, plates, body kits, tires, physics. Man, you can even customize the music tracks played while you race.

Cons: First, don't compare this to the console games. While it's about 90% there, there are a few things left out. Pearlized paint isn't in the PSP version and a few other minor things like that. The motion blur nitro effects arent as good, nor is the slip streams. The load times move from 10 seconds to 70 seconds. Purists complain of a lowered frame rate, but I don't notice anything choppy. No pedestrians. And lastly, the sense of speed isn't as intense as it is on the console.

Pros: It's not a console game on the PSP. This is a completly recoded (more or less) version of the game. A few cars were added and it's amazing on the PSP. Everything is amazing. Rotating cameras when you hit jumps, the look of the cars, speed blur from nitros, and everything you can do to your car. The races are great. On screen HUD is just right, the maps are fine. Plus the amazing selection of songs you can listen to.

This is the best game I have played so far on the PSP. Yes there are some issues, like the load time and repetitive tire screach. But the play truly out weighs all the issues.

Conclusion: If you like racing games, especially arcade style games, pick this one up. Its easy to do all your car customiztion without having to be a car fanatic, and the races are challenging enough the make the play exciting. Dont expect it to be the console version on the PSP. It a PSP game. Play it as you haven't played the others and you will relealize how amazing it really is.

97
The Midnight Club series has good racing games but this one is the best. Other than long load times and cops on your tail, you can make your car however you want. One of my favorite features is the slipstream that you get when you're behind another racer in a car. The graphics are like an X-box/PS2 but the sound is like angels desending from heaven. If you have some exta cash pick it up. If you want a good racer that will entertain you for days on end then get this game.

79
The game resembles the console versions in many ways. Lots of the races, parts and cars are almost exact. The game runs at a little bit of a slow framerate that you will get used to. The menus in the garage are the worst though. The game controls very easily with all cars being automatic. Like the console version, you can fully customize your controls. The only thing I dislike about the controls is having to press up to start a race. As for the races, they're almost all short and good for portable gaming, with the exception of a tournament or two.

Fun Factor - 8.5/10

It is a pretty fun game. If you had fun with the console version of MC3, then you will most certainly have fun with the portable version.

Graphics - 7/10

The graphics are pretty good. They tend to get a little edgy at times, but you don't really pay attention to it alot. The only things that bother me are the blurring and low framerate. But once you race for an hour or so, you get used to it.

Sound Quality - 7.5/10

AAAAAaaah! The sound of the screeching tires when burning out is annoying! It is almost always the same sound too! And can get very repetetive! But other than that, the games sound effects seem OK. The music is great, and I think the same as the console version too. The only downside is that you cannot customize your music playlist!

Replay Value - 5/10

Almost non-existant. The game is fun and all, but in my opinion, neither the console version or the portable version have any replay value after beating the game. The console versions were a little fun to play online, but without the use of headsets, I guess Rockstar didnt feel the need to incorporate an online feature. They could have at least added the ability to download extra content, which would have been a very neat feature indeed!

Overall

After giving it thought, I have come to the conclusion of a 79/100. Yes the game is fun, and can be entertaining for a couple of days. But after beating the game, there isnt much left to do. The framerate and sound issues along with the long loading times make the game an annoyance. You do get somewhat used to these issues, but they still hurt the game in the long-run. I suggest renting this game, and seeing how you like it first.

85
I honestly can put up with the load times even though they are really long. I love how each car can be customized in every detail. I haven't played any of the MC games on the consoles so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have mixed feelings about the races. I enjoy having so many possibilities of where to go on races but often find myself getting lost. The arrows dont always seem to help as there are many different ways to go so I slow down to try and pick the right one. Also I don't know if it's just the Monte Carlo I picked up but I'm sliding all over the place.

I like the nitro feature but don't understand why I need to be right up on someone to use it. Doesn't seem like I'm going to use the nitro feature much. The graphics are good, but everything seems to have a gloss on it. This sometimes makes everything look like a blur. This doesn't help when I'm already trying to figure out where to go in the game. All in all I love the concept and it seems fun so far.

Don't take my opinion too heavy as I'm a little older than most of you probably so I find it harder and harder to keep up with the new games. This is also my first racing game that is so free style unlike the conventional Ridge Racer and such.

Tip: Switch to the eclipse and it makes a lot of difference in game play.

88
Midnight Club is pretty much a carbon copy of its console versions on PS2 and Xbox. High flying races have you zooming at speeds over 200 mph throught city streets. There are some problems though. When you are zooming through the city streets, it is likely you will miss a turn if you're racing, or bump into a car. That isn't pleasent, especially when you have a lead and you make a wrong turn and you lose the race. Also some of the alleyways can be narrow and your car is sandwiched between them.

And I don't get the nitro. In order to get a nitrous boost, you must drive behind a car for your meter to charge. Another bad thing about this game is the load times. They exceed a minute most of the time. But this game is mostly good. I love the free-roaming Rockstar gave us in the PSP version. Need for Speed failed to do that with its PSP version. The soundtrack is 80 hot songs that you're sure to tap your feet to. Graphics are great for this game, but I was a little dissapointed with the car models. Overall, I would advise you to get this game.

92
• Load times are long
• Excelent graphix
• No online

84
I really like it, and I'm only 20% done with the game. It is a very long, drawn out game. I cannot wait until I can get a lambo. I am patient and can wait on the loading times, eventhough they are about 1-2 min long. Overall, I think I will enjoy the rest of the game..

96
I just bought this game and first thing I noticed was the incredibly long loading time, worst I have seen. Also, this game installs 1.50 version on system. Graphics are great, but game play is choppy. Other then that, it seems very fun.
