I liked the theme of this game, but it really could have been better. When I first tried it, I thought it was awesome. Then I continued playing and it was just too hard! After an hour I couldn't progress anymore. So I just kept playing the same level over again and losing, until I said, "alright, this game sucks". Then I sold it.

I think this game isn't as bad as I have heard, I mean I've been hearing for months that this is the worst game ever for PSP. I just didn't belive it, so I rented it with Gamefly and thought I would give it a shot. I think it was worth it but I can see why it got bad reviews.

Gameplay
There are 4 different kinds of gameplay modes: story, arcade, challange, and special. Ive only played story and challange. The story mode only has 10 levels which kinda sucks, but within each level or I mean bomb, there are multiple puzzles. There are like 6-7 difffernt kinds of them. There is one that is like that pipe game where you have to connect the pipes or whatnot I like that one the best. They also have one that you get a laser and you have to use mirrors to blow up the other laser on the other end. And challange mode is the same thing as story except you dont get a time limit, you get timed, so no pressure. And that is one of the things I want to cover is the pressure. It is insane sometimes, I mean when you get to the last 20 seconds of the puzzle it starts ticking down and the screen starts to shake faster and faster. They REALLY put a lot of pressure on you when your playing. Thats one of the issues and another big one is you have to basically memorize all of the puzzles to win. So you need to play each level a lot to memorize it all.

Controls
They are pretty much fine except when you control the ball, when you are turning it is VERY choppy and gets annoying. And when you have to turn the crank for the gears puzzle it kinda lags when ur turing it. But overall they arent a problem.

Fun
Im haveing a lot of fun so far but I think you would have to like playing the same things over and over again to master it to like the game and thats why a lot of people didn't like it was because of this. They didn't find doing the same thing over and over again fun. I think its pretty fun.

Load Times
This is another issue with the game. The load times are pretty bad. Just to start up the game takes like a minute. And when you finish the level it takes like a minuite to get to the next one. And if you lose the level and have to start over it takes like a minute to load it up. I thought that was lame.

Replay
Again you have to want to play the same thing over and over again and if that sounds fun to you like it does to me then its got pretty good replay abilitly. I like to go back and beat it because I feel so accomplished when I actually beat the level.

Overall
I think this game is totally worth renting and giving it a shot. I'm probably gonna buy this game, I've still got a while to go with the game and I think it's a decent game.

Was kind of excited about trying this game. From the screenshots it looked interesting. Rented it. Played it for about an hour. Thought about throwing my PSP across the room out of frustration! Came back to my senses, removed this pathetic game from my PSP, moved on. Lumines is 1000x better if you need a puzzle fix.

I started with the arcade level and I've come across 3 modes so far (I'm sure there will be more): mirrors, connections and maze. With the first mirror level, you need to figure out where the laser will hit and move the shield to deflect the laser blast. There are 4 mirrors moving "randomly" reflecting the laser beam, making it more difficult to know where the laser will hit. In the second mirror level, instead of the randomly moving mirrors, you need to move and/or rotate each of the mirrors yourself to diffuse the bomb.

The connection level is a little like pipe dream, except you can only rotate the pieces in place. You need to make a connection for each color, while "gremlins" try to undo your work. Sorry I don't know the proper terminology, but the manual is brief and the instructions go by quickly. You can press Select if you need to repeat the instructions.

In the maze level, you need to move balls to certain locations to diffuse the bomb. This is a little like the old Labyrinth game - some may compare it to Mercury. In the first level you need to move the first ball to disable the force field before moving the second ball past the force field to the first location. Then move the first ball to the second location. It's easy to fall off the track without any feedback - makes it feel like 2-D when it does.

I haven't made a lot of progress yet, but I wanted to post a review to give a second perspective. I guess with a game it's possible for each person to have very different opinions. I happen to find this game very challenging, but learnable. The graphics are excellent, except for the hokey blast into a white screen when you don't diffuse the bomb in time.

I just picked this up, as it looked very promising, but it fails on two fronts. First, while it's VERY visually stunning, and the graphics are very well thought out,the graphics are so intense it actually makes my PSP stutter at times. The other problem is difficulty, it took me 5 times to get past the intro stage, and that's no good.

While the graphics are the best I've seen on the PSP yet, the fact that it makes my psp hang for a bit is not good. There's no easy setting for someone as old as me, and I just can't think that fast. Five out of ten.
