I didn't see anything on this forum about this, so I thought it would be helpful for people to hear about a hard drive you can connect to the PSP. I read about the Apacer Share Steno CD311 on the Playstation forum and now after buying one for myself, I can tell you it's great. I brought about 15 movies and all the Critic episodes with me on a long trip. It was very easy to connect the Steno to the PSP, delete the videos I just watched and then copy new videos to the memory stick on the PSP.

I got mine for $149 at supermediastore.com, which is just a little more than a 1 GB Duo, but it holds almost 40 Duos worth of videos. And you don't have to super-compress your videos to awful quality to get them all to fit on your Duo.

The Steno mounts the PSP memory stick so you can browse the memory stick's files on the Steno. It has a very tiny display and a crude, but useable interface to delete and copy files back and forth between the Steno's hard drive and the PSP.

Enjoy!

I'll wait for firmware updates that allow streaming of movies directly from USB.

Oh, and 1GB Sandisk duos are about $100 now not $150. Quite a difference, and you STILL need a large memory card unless you're going to be watching very short clips and copying/deleting very often.

$149 for the Steno - $100 for a 1Gb duo...that's $250. Price point sound familiar? You just spent $500 not including games, cases, etc. No thanks.

There is also a 60 GB model available, and its not really that bad of an idea. If you compress your movies to 1GB each, you could store 60 movies on the 60 GB version. Thats $175 + a 1 GB Hi-Speed Sony Memory Stick for $150 would be $325, yea more than the PSP costs, but less than the 2 GB Memory Stick and 30x more space. This would also give the PSP decent MP3 Player functionality because the only problem with it now is that you can't hold your entire MP3 library on the memory stick like you can with an iPod. I like the idea. Might have to buy this combo for myself.

Well, I was planning on geting a 512MB mp3 player that says it holds 340 songs. I'm just wondering if the SanDisk 512MB Memory Stick for a PSP holds 340 songs as well. B/C if it does, I'm getting a PSP with the Memory Stick.(It's a way better deal). So does the SanDisk 512MB Memory Stick for a PSP hold 340 songs if you wanted to fill it up with songs? I hope someone answers me even if you don't know the answer because I've been wondering about this for a very long time. Thanx

Obviously it would depend on the length and bitrate of the songs.
