I didn't see anything on this forum about this, so I thought it would be helpful for people to hear about a hard drive you can connect to the PSP. I read about the Apacer Share Steno CD311 on the Playstation forum and now after buying one for myself, I can tell you it's great. I brought about 15 movies and all the Critic episodes with me on a long trip. It was very easy to connect the Steno to the PSP, delete the videos I just watched and then copy new videos to the memory stick on the PSP.
I got mine for $149 at supermediastore.com, which is just a little more than a 1 GB Duo, but it holds almost 40 Duos worth of videos. And you don't have to super-compress your videos to awful quality to get them all to fit on your Duo.
The Steno mounts the PSP memory stick so you can browse the memory stick's files on the Steno. It has a very tiny display and a crude, but useable interface to delete and copy files back and forth between the Steno's hard drive and the PSP.
Can anyone find these for sale in the US without the hard drive? That Canadian site has them but shipping prices are high to the US. And yes, I did a currency conversion first.
I wouldnt recommend mobileplanet. They claimed to have them in stock and changed it to "on order" after my order was placed. After 55 minutes on hold I got them to cancel my order.
iocombo.com claims to have the enclosure (without hard drive) in stock at $64. I just placed an order with 2 day shipping. Ill post a review when it comes in so I can confirm it works. Ive heard it from a few people that it does, but Im still skeptical until I see it for myself.
Depending on the size of your videos, you might get by with a 512 MB stick. And if you only want to bring music with you, then any size memory stick will work.
I made an mp4 copy of a 90 minute movie that came out to 230mb-310mb depending on quality. Either way, it fits just fine on a 512mb. With the hard drive, I dont feel the need to have room for more than 1 movie on the stick at a time.

oh, and technically this topic is wrong.
its not 40gb drive vs expensive duos.
its '40gb drive + expensive duo + transfer capabilities vs just having a duo'
I second the motion to BOYCOTT TRIO COMPUTERS. They said they shipped my 1gb stick last Monday (sent me email, says shipped UPS ground as order status on their website), but on the phone today said it was "backordered". Those people are criminals.

If I'd titled it, "40 GB Drive vs Expensive Duo", you might be right. But, the point is if you buy the 40 GB Drive, you only need one duo, not many. So, the choice [after buying one duo] is whether or not to buy a 40 GB Drive or More Duos.
