I didn't see anything on this forum about this, so I thought it would be helpful for people to hear about a hard drive you can connect to the PSP. I read about the Apacer Share Steno CD311 on the Playstation forum and now after buying one for myself, I can tell you it's great. I brought about 15 movies and all the Critic episodes with me on a long trip. It was very easy to connect the Steno to the PSP, delete the videos I just watched and then copy new videos to the memory stick on the PSP.
I got mine for $149 at supermediastore.com, which is just a little more than a 1 GB Duo, but it holds almost 40 Duos worth of videos. And you don't have to super-compress your videos to awful quality to get them all to fit on your Duo.
The Steno mounts the PSP memory stick so you can browse the memory stick's files on the Steno. It has a very tiny display and a crude, but useable interface to delete and copy files back and forth between the Steno's hard drive and the PSP.
I have a better solution guys how abt a device 1/3 the size of the steno 1/4 the wieght and at half the price. Sound to good to be true? How abt stylish black with a cary case and as a added bonus works with all your digital cameras. I am talking about the smartdisk fotochute. Mind you this device is only 20 gb but you can get it today from original price of 170 at 69.99 at office depot. I bought this and now have all my mp3 and movies and swap with my 1gig card on the fly. Yes I tested and yes it works, I'm so happy I almost cried when it actually worked.
does look awesome. Office Depot clears electronics out all the time at ridiculous prices. Check out this site. link You have to be really on top of them, and search the stores & not trust the online "in stock" info from OD. Their records are not very accurate & if your willing to hunt store to store, you can get a slick deal.
It connects via a usb slot. It has two usb slots one to connect to computer an another to connect to camera and psp. All you do is put the psp in usb mode and then click copy from the hardrive unit select if sending or receiving from psp or from hardrive. THen it gives the option to decide under what subdirectory you want to put it this is crucial since for movies needs to be in a root subdirectory. THen hit button send wala.
Wow.. Thanks Jaco........I'm going shopping. Everything I found for it online ..said the rebate deal ends the 10th! Get it soon if your gonna get it!
Thanks again!
hey i was looking into getting a Hard Drive for my psp and i realize this topic is month is several months old so i just want to make sure this is still the best Hard Drive or is there something better out now and if so what is it?
ok thanks ill be ordering one wedensday then thanks just wanted to make sure this was still the best btw i just wanted to know is this thing small enough to where i can have my psp in one pocket and this in the other and i can just walk around and listen to music with?
Yeah, i still have my Share Steno Cd211--got it since mid last year! 60GB for 149.00!!! I love the fact that it is holding movie files for my Pocket PC, and PSp. Photo files, and i was even able to use it as an external hdd to back up our Laptop's important files (38gb at the time) to reinstall windows.
The only think i wished that the apacer had is a better screen interface. Otherwise, i'm happy with it.. Sizewise, its not much bigger than the PSP! *AND* i'm able to use the PSP's charger/DC cable to recharge the Apacer's built in lithium ion battery - both are 5v power!
Got mine from From MydigitalDiscount! - Great savings- and great rep support!!! They even recommended me to the Apacer instead of Vosonic's (which "looked" better-but evidently, Vosonic has higher defect rate, and it was more expensive!) And i'm glad i did. CD311 is not much different, u just get additional card reader, and enhanced security feature so i just went to get the CD211 --and if you already have a usb card reader-(like a mini card reader) u can use it w/ ur Apacer!!!
I found one option that takes a little work, but, though maybe more expensive than some portable harddrive options, it seems to be MUCH more useful in the long run. Check out How To: 20GB External Storage for PSP at The Furrygoat Experience (I really did not want to try finding out about the name.) It looks to be a way to have portable, wifi, streaming webserver with whatever sized harddrive you want to use. 20gb is just what the author had.
